Halfway Pint finds the pub halfway between two or more places in London. This page says what we keep when you use it, what we do not, and why a pub might hear from us. Last changed 28 October 2026.

Who we are

Halfway Pint is run by Houve Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (number 15472574), London SW11 1EE. The person behind it is Joao Martins. Write to joao@halfwaypint.london about anything on this page.

When you search for a pub

A halfway search names two to four places. We keep the places you searched from, as the names and coordinates the site resolved them to, with the pubs it found and the time of the search. We do not keep what you typed, your name, or an account: the site has none.

We keep searches for two reasons: a shared link to a search has to open the same search again, and the log tells us which parts of London people meet between, which decides which pubs and pages we work on. The log is read by us and by no one else.

The sentence box (“a quiet pub with a garden between Clapham and Angel”) is read on the server and turned into places and filters. The sentence itself is not stored.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and searches. It is told the address of each page without anything after the question mark, so the places you searched from never reach it, and events carry counts and fixed words, never anything you typed. A page that does not exist is reported under one fixed address, not the one that was tried.

Google sets its usual analytics cookies for this. The tag is added only on halfwaypint.london itself.

Cookies

Apart from Google Analytics, the site sets two cookies, both only for the person who runs it: one after a login to its private admin pages, and one that keeps their own opens of the private pages below from being counted. A visitor gets none from us.

Where the pub information comes from

Pub ratings, photographs and summaries are from Google Maps and are shown under Google’s terms. Food hygiene ratings are from the Food Standards Agency, and station locations and travel times from Transport for London, both under the Open Government Licence. None of this is information about you.

If you run a pub, and we write to you

We sometimes email pubs and pub companies about what their listings show and what people search for near them. When we do, the address is either one the pub or the company publishes itself, on its own website or its Google listing, or, for a named person at a limited company, a work address in the company’s own email format that its mail server confirms exists before we write. We keep a note of where each address came from and how it was checked. We never buy lists, and we write to people about their business, at work addresses only, never at home.

We rely on our legitimate interest in telling a pub something true and useful about how it is found. Every email says who sent it, with this postal address, and ends with a way to say no: reply “no thanks” and we will not write again, and the address goes on a list we never write to.

What we hold about a pub for this is public: its Google listing as it stood on the day, its hygiene rating, its nearest stations, and how often it came up in searches on this site. About a person we hold at most a name, a work email address and where it came from, when the private page we made for them was opened, and, if they pay, what they give Stripe at checkout.

Some of our emails link to a private page made for that pub or company. We record when the page is opened, which version was shown and whether the request looked like an automatic link checker, and nothing else: no cookie, and no address or device details.

If you pay for a report, the payment is taken by Stripe. We see that it was paid, how much, and the name and email address you give at checkout; never your card details.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to delete it, or object to our using it, at the address above. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, ico.org.uk.

Nothing here is sent outside the companies that host the site and its data (Vercel and Supabase, in the European Union and the United States) and Google, for the analytics and the map, and Stripe, for payments.
