About Bird in Hand

Cocktails and draft beer served in comfy, old-school surrounds with a pool table and patio seats.

A deceptively spacious, smart Victorian corner local taken over and refurbished by Antic in summer 2023. The bright and airy front bar leads through to a slightly more muted raised rear seating area. Has no garden but there is a small outside seating area at the side which acts as a sun-trap in the summer. There are usually five cask beers available, including one or two from the in-house Volden brewery. There was no kitchen at the re-opening but one is planned to open later in 2023.

🚇 Forest Hill 🍺 £6.10 Madri A Stunning Pub That. Needs A Kick Up The Backside. The Bird in Hand is located on Dartmouth Road in Forest Hill, South East London. The nearest station is Forest Hill Overground, it’s a four minute walk to get here. The pub was built in 1861 and is named after the noble art of falconry. The Bird in Hand was taken over by @anticpubs last year. They have extensively refurbished the pub and exposed many original features including the pub’s sign and the beautiful exterior tiles. This is a one bar pub that has two rooms, the main bar area is at the front and…

Will be lovely once finished. A whole area taped off. The bar is a little short. Customers sitting in front of the bar with ample tables. It's not good and not very welcoming as you can't get to order drinks. The bit of the bar not blocked by sitted customers had a customer talking to a member of staff with the sausage rolls uncovered underneath them. There were two flies around. H&S nightmare! No disabled toilets and part of the sitting area, it's not accessible for people with disabilities. Photos attached to prove the comments.

Profoundly depressing atmosphere. I popped in and asked for non alcoholic beer. A friendly woman was trying to find out what they offered. A sullen guy behind the bar gave the absolute grudging bare minimum service. Unsmiling be proceeded to criticise how she pulled the pint. The whole experience was grim. Luckily I never need to go there again.

As a long standing regular, I knew this pub had potential, and was always heading in the right direction. Under new management, it has begun to find its feet, with a constant warm welcome from the bar staff. The atmosphere is now lively compared to what it had been previously. I want this pub to really succeed and its on its way there.

Great host for the Euros final. Working in partnership with local restaurants for tasty food and the drinks are cheap! Can’t wait to go visit again
