About Chequers Tavern
Busy hangout with an old-fashioned vibe, serving typical pub grub, burgers & sandwiches, plus beer.
Small, friendly old-world down-to-earth pub operated by small chain Shannon Pubs in the heart of the galleries area of St James’s, with outside drinking areas at the front, in Masons Yard at the side and in the square at the back. Two terrestrial TVs.
Note that in common with many pubs of this age this one has fairly steep stairs down to the WCs.

A couple weren’t very pleased with their burger and chips, they left after being refunded. Several customers have looked at it in disgust too. And we have now sat next to the food for over half an hour and the male bar attendant has looked at it several times and not bothered to remove it. Lazy git!! The lady, however, has been really busy and even cleaned the table, which I offered to do.

A small pub just down the street from Fortnum & Mason that is full of character! Came in for a quick drink with my partner and got a seat at the end of the bar. The prices were pretty good too, a round for two people coming in just over £12. Service was quick too, the size of the pub probably helping as there aren't too many people to serve. Lots of interesting decor to look at and a telly with sports playing too.

Cute little pub. We came here for a quick drink on a day out. The service was nice, but could be better. However, they have a large selection of drinks. The food smelled lovely although we didn't eat here.

Used to love this pub but on Saturday afternoon I was having a quiet drink when 3 people with a dog came in. One staff member seemed fine but as they were about to order another young man behind the bar said they had to leave as the pub had a no dog policy. As they left so did I & I won’t be back. I’ve taken loads of people to what is a great pub but with such a foolish policy that was my last time. Discriminatory policies & stupid staff is exactly what the hospitality sector doesn’t need.

Very nice local place to spend time durin the lunch break. We had multiple diffefent perfecr draft beers and of course Fish and Chips which was delicious meal. I would love to re-visit this tavern in the future. At the time of our arrival, it was silent place, but around the lunch time it was absolutelly full.
