About Compton Arms
Local backstreet pub showing big-screen sport, both inside and outside in its covered courtyard.
Under new ownership and now reopened and given a lick of paint and new wood floor amongst other details but with the layout unchanged. Three to four ales, though how 'regular' they'll be remains to be seen. Now owned by Nick Stephens (Locals Club Ltd) of the Gun in Well Street, Homerton. Belly is the new Kitchen at the Compton Arms after the FourLegs residency came to a close (see their website). Table bookings are only take for food.
Small, attractive, cottage style building, in a narrow side street opposite some 1920s post modernist flats. Inside the compact dimensions and wooden beams heighten the country pub atmosphere. The main part of the pub is a narrow bare-boarded area, with bottle glass-panelled windows to the street. To the rear of the bar is a smaller dining area; there is also a lower lounge area that leads to a pleasant patio courtyard. Pub can get crowded before kick-off when Arsenal play at home. Handy for concerts at the nearby Union Chapel.
The Islington Architects Darts team used to meet in the Compton Arms between 1982 and 2022. http://wombat.keeper.co.uk/virtualdarts.html

Lovely neighborhood pub. Really enjoyed their house lager. Had a very nice and relaxing atmosphere when we came on a Sunday afternoon.

Perfect courtyard for summer! Dinner for 4 people and we ordered one of each plate almost and the two guys were still a bit hungry. Everything was delicious, if only the portion of the mains was a bit bigger. The smoked ricotta and honey was our favourite.

Nice little place, great beer on tap, always busy. They do some nice Italian food as well

Did not eat but a sweet pub in the back streets of Islington / Canonbury. Nice selection of drinks although not a full selection due to size of the bar. Cute outside space and lovely artwork. Great little pub suited to locals in the neighbourhood and those wanting to avoid the busy bars of upper street / Essex road

Tucked away neighbourhood iykyn vibes. Bar staff are lovely, helpful. Try the Bloody Mary. Great selection of beers, wine and cocktails. Atmosphere is quiet enough for a chat but still lively. Thought to find a table but that’s part of the charm.
