About General Napier

This is a friendly and unpretentious, cornersite backstreet pub, popular with the local community. The pub sign is a fairly plain affair that just says “The Nap”.

Inside it’s carpeted throughout, with banquettes, metal framed tables and small stools providing the main furnishings, but of course with the obligatory tall stools at the bar. Rather unusually, there’s a bit of matchboard half-height wooden screening in the middle of the room that serves to screen off some of the seating from the main bar area. There are TVs; a dartboard near the corner door; a small garden at the back and a few benches outside at the front, plus free wi-fi advertised. Refurbished and reopened under new management in July 2022.

🚇 Honor Oak Park 🍺 £6.50 Madri The General Napier is located in a quiet residential street in Forest Hill. The nearest station is Honor Oak Park, it’s a ten minute walk to get here. This pub was built in 1871 and is named after General Sir Charles James Napier who served in the British Army between 1794–1851. In July 2022 this pub was taken over by new owners, extensively refurbished and given a new lease of life. This is a one bar pub that is traditionally decorated with some fantastic film, music and beer memorabilia. The servery is located on the back wall and has a solid wood counter…

Love this pub. A proper local tucked away off the main road. Always a warm welcome and charming, friendly service. Cracking sound system and always a great selection of music playing. Good selection of beers and an excellent pint of Guinness. A dartboard. Well worth paying a visit.

AMAZING SUNDAY ROASTS. I took my Mum here and the roast dinners total blew away our expectations. Proper home cooked food, a massive range of delicious fresh veg, huge portions of meat, and yorkshire puddings to die for. It's also a super cosy pub with so many lovely touches and a massive selection of board games and friendly locals - as well as a very cute resident dog. Arrive early so as not to be disappointed! We then shared a sticky toffee pudding for desert which isn't usually my favourite (they had sold out of the other deserts) but it was delicious, ate it before remembered to take a…

A lovely local pub, quiet around the back streets, non pretentious with local people and very friendly staff. Had a delicious Sunday lunch which was home made. Great crackling on the pork, lots of veg, crispy, potatoes with a delicious selection of desserts. Will definitely be going back.

This is a proper pub. Really warm atmosphere, lovely owners, full of character. Great music too. I had the roast here on Sunday and it was absolutely top notch! Easily the best pub in SE23 and my new neighbourhood favourite.
