Ex-Truman, now a free house. Determinedly ungentrified pub, which nevertheless is very popular with both older East End custom and more bohemian incomers to the area. Former horseshoe bar, now moved back to provide more space, but still not spacious. Sky TVs, pool, darts, varied jukebox, small covered heated rear courtyard for smokers, well fed white cat in residence.

🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £6.10 Budvar The Hare is situated in the heart of Cambridge Heath in the East End of London. The nearest Tube is Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath overground is also close by. There has been a pub on this site since the late eighteenth century, the pub you see today is an ex-Truman’s boozer built around 1860. This is a traditionally decorated one bar pub that is set out in an ‘L’ shape. The servery is a decent size and follows the line of the bar. Around the edges of the bar are long banquettes with sturdy tables in front. To the left of the servery is a pool table…

Proper pub. Took me back to the 80s, could almost smell the cigarette smoke. The young girl behind the bar was incredible, the place was busy right up til closing time and she handled the pressure all on her own with style. Staff like that are one in a million. Dad, you should be proud!

Reasonable prices and great, friendly staff. Called in advance to see if they would show the F1 and the staff on the phone and in the pub couldn't have been nicer. And fantastic Guinness. A great little spot.

Busy pub in Bethnal Green. The Hare is right there simple and full on. Crowded today with football supporters, all having a great time. A staple East end pub, does what it says on the label.
