Hop Poles, Hammersmith

About Hop Poles

Roomy Victorian pub with a roof terrace, marble pillars, etched mirrors and an island bar.

The present Grade II listed building, with its striking granite-faced frontage on Hammersmith's high street, featuring bow windows at the entrances, dates from 1857. Records of earlier public houses on the site go back to 1798 and names included the Manchester Arms and later the Three Hop Poles.

The cavernous interior, once divided into many rooms, retains some of its original features: remnants of partitioning, slender scroll-topped columns supporting the ornately decorated high ceiling and some glasswork and mirrors can all be seen. An island bar, with an attractive back-bar, serves all areas of the ground floor.

Contrary to the old signs in the windows, this is no longer a free house. The four handpumps generally offer Sharp's Doom Bar and (but not always) a changing ale. A Lilley's cider may occupy another handpump.

The menu focusses on pizza, tapas, burgers and sharing plates: see the pub's website for special offers. TV screens show freeview broadcasts, occasionally including sports events. Thursday is Quiz Night starting at 7pm.

Very good selection of craft beers. I had Campfire hazy IPA from Two Tribes and Clwb Tropica IPA from Tiny Rebel.

A large, vibrant and busy pub. Good selection of drinks. Quite a few screens showing an array of sports. Reasonable prices. I didn't eat but the food looked appetising.

Hello and Moin! We were with you on July 8th, 2024 and ate fish & chips. And a beer, of course. It was our first visit to the pub. Thank you very much. Best wishes from Hamburg.

Highly recommended pub - particularly for sports fans. Watched the Euros final there last night- the atmosphere was great and the staff were super attentive and friendly. They managed to extend our table booking for the whole evening and there weren't excessive queues at the bar. Thank you!

Great place. We pre-booked a table but arrived early so were happy to have a drink at the bar. The barman immediately told us of the offers on the drinks and when we explained about booking a table he went off to find our reservation and seated us and told us there was no rush on ordering our food. When we did order from the bar the service was brilliant and we didn't have to wait to long for it to arrive. We both had the chicken option little rebel burger meal which hit the right spot and was delicious. As the pub filled up we still were served promptly at the bar and our table was cleared…
