About Maxwell

Reopened 30th March 2023 after refurbishment by Greene King as one of their Hive Pubs. Interior decor is in shades of grey with a mix of wooden flooring and carpet. Single long bar with three handpulls, featuring cask ales from the Greene King stable. At one end of the bar, a room leads off for the dartboard, whilst at the other end, it is more spacious for dining. Bow fronted windows are a feature of the building. Note the 1896 map on the ceiling showing the locality with a tribute to the Orpington Chicken and Duck being bred by William Cook in the 1890's. Pictures of chickens complement the walls.

There are several TVs, all showing major sporting events. Food is available all day, including childrens' and seniors' menus. Pizzas are also available to eat in or takeaway. Sunday roasts are also popular as well as daily special deals.

Outside, there is a small patio area, partially covered at one end with a TV. There is also an adjacent community noticeboard.

Handy for Orpington Station (a couple of minutes walk away for any frustrated or thirsty commuters !).

Maxwell hotel is a great place to go when you’re hungry and just want to have a nice time. The food was great and the service was good. It didn’t take long for my food to arrive and the staff was really nice. I would recommend coming here if you’re hungry and want some nice food.

Been a semi-regular patron of this pub for about 2 years and the service of staff and general atmosphere is amazing. my favourite place to go for a drink and some good food. Elle, Flo and Charlotte especially are amazing.

Absolutely appalling and disgraceful staff, not to mention blatantly racist. My younger brother and I, aged 21 and 24, recently decided to have a drink at our local pub. Right away, it was clear we were the only South Asians in the entire place, including both staff and patrons. They first checked my brother's ID and then mine, and out of nowhere, they declared my ID to be fake! There was no justification for this except for the fact that we were the only brown individuals there. Both of our IDs were completely valid, but they examined mine as if it were a forgery. They even attempted to…

Sorry but we were so looking forward to this visit with family and ordered two Sunday roast dinners which was very disappointing. The beef roast was very fatty small quantity. Looked like a kids meal. My wife had the chicken roast meal roast potatoes were rubbish tasted like pre cooked no veg apart from peas and a little bit of cauliflower and the Yorkshire pudding was horrible. Again meal was very small for the price we paid looked like a bloody kids meal. I would ask for my money back but i know I won't get it back anyway. I would not recommend the Sunday dinner to anybody because it's not…
