About Sir John Balcombe
Bright, split-level pub with a piano in the cellar bar, serving British food and real ales.
Just off Dorset Square, re-opened in 2014 and reverting to one of its former names, this pub was refurbished again in 2019 and smartened up. There is a gastro feel, but beer is not neglected. The kitchen offers a modern all-day pub menu which includes pub favourites.
Classic afternoon tea is on offer but must be pre-booked, see venue website.
Memorabilia relating to the Balcombe Street Siege in December 1975 unfortunately vanished in the refurb.

A great find. The fish sandwich was excellent. Great choice of bourbons and whiskey. Beers on tap were excellent as well. Great service and clean toilet.

The most magical evening here at Sir John Balcombe pub. Peter and staff went above and beyond to make our wedding day perfect. The atmosphere and professionalism exceeded our expectations. Beautiful pub in itself. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to hold their wedding reception. We are forever grateful!

Fairly standard food. Visited with friends, we each enjoyed a pint and ordered individual mains. My choice was a classic British pub dish, sausages and mash, which I found to be decent but not extraordinary. The chips were acceptable.

Superb pub right next door to Marylebone Train Station. I hadn’t been here for over twenty years but decided to revisit on the way to Marylebone Theatre. Welcoming staff, great beer (London Pride amongst others), super food and reasonable prices. I was particularly pleased with the menu, prompt ordering of food and drink via the app and friendly / super efficient young staff. We had a great time. Would particularly recommend the fish and chips plus the steak (wonderfully rare as ordered). Well done. I’ll make sure it’s not another twenty years before I return.

It is a lovely pub, very nicely decorated, with a reasonable selection of beers and larger. I didn't eat, but a friend did, and it looked and smelled wonderful. We were there on a Friday early afternoon, and space was not a problem. Would I go again? Yes,definitely.
