Three Tuns, London EC3

About Three Tuns

Split-level, traditional pub with rear and roof terraces, serving cask ales and bar snacks.

Pub re-opened on 24/06/2016 as part of Enterprise's managed Bermondsey Pub Co. Four real ales mixing national brands with local breweries plus a range of craft beer from Bermondsey beer mile.

The Three Tuns is a traditional pub in the City of London EC3. Known as Hennessy's from 2003 until May 2014 when it reverted to the original 'Three Tuns' name, and increased the cask ale offering from two to five handpulls. There has been a pub on this site since the 1700s. The old Roman London Wall runs through the beer cellar and has been preserved behind a large perspex panel. It's rumoured that Jack the Ripper may have hidden in the pub's cellar on several occasions by using the cellar chute at the rear of the building in Vine Street. The Three Tuns has a small, traditional downstairs bar with a heated smoking terrace to the rear and an upstairs bar/dining room. The gem of a roof garden is open in the summer months and is available for private hire.

Happy to report they took the feedback on the pizza. I ordered the Mighty Meat and it was excellent. Good flavor, slightly chewy crust with the hallmarks of a wood fired oven. Sad to say ate all of it, but no regrets :) Beer was good, too. Clean glass, good pour, just the right amount of foam. Tells me they’re keeping their beer chilled and their glasses “beer clean”. Always nice to see an establishment take feedback and bounce back. Cheers!

The mothership with moo pie was pretty good. Sauce was runny and peas weren't my favorite but the filling and crust and fried onions were nice. My dad got a handy pie and it was kind of like burnt toast with a meat filling. I guess the price difference between the two makes sense...

Whilst on my recent visit to London, I had heard that the Three Tuns in Aldgate were cooking Pieminister pies. As these are normally excellent, I went in with high expectations and I was definitely not disappointed! The lady behind the bar was very warm and friendly. I ordered a Free Ranger Mothership pie (Pie with Mash, Crispy Shallots, Peas, Cheese & Gravy) and a drink and whilst it was busy downstairs I was informed that upstairs was quiet and that my food would be brought to my ASAP. Upstairs it was lovely and there are really nice posters around the walls with connections to the London…

Tracey was amazing and fast! Made a couple tourist feel welcomed and didn't rush us even though it was busy. Pie was fresh and delicious, beer was cold and the futbal crowd was lively. Great place to enjoy the game, food and beer.

Lovely little pub. They do a pie and pint for £11. Also have pizza on the menu. Cool place.
