About Black Horse
Cosy pub brewing its own beer, with an intimate dining section serving pub classics, plus a garden.
Re-opened in November 2012 . Tastefully extended into an open-plan area: although now food orientated the drinker is always made most welcome.
In November 2021, Masterton Leisure Holdings took over the running of the pub. They closed The Barnet Brewery, which brewed both Barnet and Hadley beers. But real ale is still thriving; the eight handpumps offer 3 regular plus up to 3 guest beers from both local and National breweries.
There is an extensive garden to the side and a paved area at rear, in front of the former micro brewery.
The garden is now split; the back section is now gated, making it child friendly. This part of the garden is also now designated a no smoking area; a very good idea!!

Good pub lunch after an exhausting week. Ella, our waitress was wonderful and really helpful. We had 3 Neck Oils on tap ( very good) and one coke- waitress asking whether I would prefer a bottle or off the pump was appreciated because I really like a bottled drink with no ice. Our order was fish and chips (chunky ones!), Cumberland sausage (3) with mash, gravy (slightly saltier than I expected) and peas which were done perfectly, the classic burger and buttermilk chicken burger with upgraded dirty fries. We were told at ordering that the dirty fries instead of the skinny ones with the burger…

Black Horse.... the best pub so far! We were visiting it last Sunday with our children... we weren't expecting they food to be so delicious! Very good and fast service! Lovely garden! Will be back again! Thank you!

Based on my first visit (weekday lunchtime) I found the pub extremely welcoming, clean and comfortable. I had time to kill before my hospital appointment so stayed for a coffee and wine, no food. Manager Amy was personable, warm and extremely hospitable and I watched her greet a handful of customers by first name. The pub is spacious though I'm told they get very busy in the evenings and special occasions.Toilets were clean, spacious and nicely decorated, the washbasin was lower than usual which I assume is also great for kids and wheelchair users. Exceptional service, Barnet Cab! From start to finish, my journey was nothing short of perfect. The driver was punctual, courteous, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the trip. Food presentation excellent. Came out quickly and on hot plates. Very relaxed and service was perfect. Have to try their warm cheesecake. Only critism are photos and menus needs update as don't reflect the restaurant.
