About Brockley Barge
Budget comfort food and real ales in a roomy, modern chain pub named after local canal heritage.
Formerly the Breakspear Arms. Ex-Courage, closed in 1994. A wedge shaped corner pub reopened in 2000 by Wetherspoon. New name derives from the nearby Croydon Canal. Spacious interior, with restrained modern décor. All facilities are on the same level here. Popular, good range of ages from 20s to 70s, very good community mix. 10 handpumps on the bar counter in 2 banks, each of 5.

Not a bad spoons, but loses points on the musty smelly carpet which desperately needs a wash. As you walk in there’s a smell and feel of old, grimy, musty beer filled carpet and old alcoholics sit in there all day. It’s a little depressing. Sitting outside in the sun can be nice however and has a holiday feel to it. The breakfast is decent, classic spoons so not the best quality but cheap. They forgot some of my order so I had to ask for it and they got it wrong.

Great place to have a proper food. It’s chain is throughout UK so simplest way is downloading app called Wetherspoon which can be used to locate the nearest chain from your location and use same app to order food once you’re in the branch. Cool 🤘

Local Wetherspoons. ... Great ales & beers 🍻 🍺 🍻 but the bar staff are more intent on discussing their everyday lives with each other than serving the customers. Question: Whatever happened to customer service? Wetherspoons might be a large company that has numerous public houses throughout the UK but I rather go to a locally-owned establishment that will take the time to make the customers feel like they are welcome & appreciated.

The Ale I had was excellent, the Steak was perfectly cooked, the Side Salad very colourful and tasty and even the Mash had a pleasing texture to it! Very well done! The service at the bar was very helpful and friendly and the table service was very quick and unobtrusive.

As an ale drinker I appreciate that the staff at Wetherspoons always seem to know how to properly pour a pint. Given the barge is one of the best value pubs in the area ( followed only by the Royal George (Sam smiths)) their guest cask ale is consistently high quality and expertly kept, and often nicer than more expensive pubs in the area. As usual Wetherspoons have good vegan options on the menu and the staff as always are friendly and professional.
