About Castle

Book-filled gastropub dishing up British food, including Sunday roasts with small portions for kids.

Thriving contemporary local. Ex-Bass Charrington, now leased from Star. Changed hands most recently in August 2013. Decent food, and real ale. Popular with a fair mix of custom.

So The Castle is more about the place rather than the food. Great atmosphere, I only wish the food had been as good. For £19.95 you expect a pretty damn good roast. The chicken was succulent but flavourless, the roasties had been cooked within and inch of their lives and the solitary 1.5 inch ball of stuffing as mean sized as it was tough. It’s saving grace was the veggies. I’m going to add that having to pay an extra £1.50 for gravy seems really stingy, especially when it comes in a container that could be mistaken for a thimble. See pic for reference. Pint glass beside for scale. All in all…

We return here every once and a while, and when we do we, remember why! The team and food are absolutely next level beats!! Thanks for your hospitality Castle Pub!! The sweet potato and pardon pepper starters were the best in a long time! The meats in our rump steak, pie and monkfish curry were tender, succulent and done to perfection!! Great quality all around!!

I came here for Sunday roast with some friends and their baby. It was very busy, which also meant it was quite loud. The service was fine and friendly. Food was ok. It was a little bland we all seemed to need extra salt, but despite being a well done roast beef it was still very tender. They did diced parsnips, which I did not enjoy at all and sadly the roast potatoes were dry. But the other trimmings were fine. I would highly recommend booking a table in advance if you want to guarantee a seat. It's located on a residential road and has a little bit of seating outside.

We had fantastic food except for the desserts. The chocolate mousse was hard, the key lime pie wasn’t really one (where’s the meringue), and both the taste and the texture were weird (not sweet, rather unpleasant). So for me the main menu, including the vegetarian dishes, is great, but the desserts are not

Nice spot! Cozy inside and nice sunny picnic tables out front. I had the Jerk Chicken and it was very enjoyable, especially the cole slaw. Average prices. Very family oriented and lots of kids and strollers in the place. Will definitely be back!
