About Coach & Horses

Living room-style pub with upholstered furniture, outside terrace and futuristic glass conservatory.

The actual date of the pub's construction is not known but it was standing in 1759. Young's first leased the pub in 1831 and the freehold was bought in 1897 from Earl Percy, later Duke of Northumberland, who owned the nearby Syon House and much of the surrounding land. A Grade II-listed pub, the former Public Bar was merged with the rest of the pub in the 1990s, but more extensive refurbishment took place in 2011 to create the current layout. A display case with a coach lantern is hidden away at the rear of the former Public Bar, an area which tends to be quieter than the other drinking areas that are often busy and can get noisy.

The main claim to historical fame by the Coach and Horses is a mention in Dickens' Oliver Twist. Oliver is taken by Bill Sykes to commit a burglary in Chertsey. After walking from Bethnal Green to Hyde Park Corner, Sykes secures them a lift in a carrier's cart to Hounslow: 'As they passed the different milestones, Oliver wondered, more and more, where his companion meant to take him. Kensington, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Kew Bridge, Brentford, were all passé and yet they went on as steadily as if they had only just begun their journey. At length they came to a public house called the Coach and Horses...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Coaches and Horses Club Pub, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! The tomato soup was absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy meal. The burgers were equally impressive, cooked to perfection with juicy patties and fresh ingredients. The combination made for a fantastic dining experience. Kudos to the chef and the team for the excellent food and warm service. I'll definitely be back!

Went for Sunday lunch lots of food well cooked. Skip the starters' massive dinner. Pigs in duvets delicious Roast potatoes could be crispier. I would reserve a table as it gets very busy

Very good service with staff that are very polite and welcoming. Atmosphere is lively and family friendly. The menu was a bit hard to follow due to its layout so was hard to see the prices. Would recommend the beef burger with fries as was very nice. Interior is very spacious and cosy. Would come again!

Had a lovely Sunday roast yesterday. I always go for chicken but they were out by the time we got there. They had two massive parties so understandable. We opted for the beef instead and it was delicious. Moist and well seasoned. My son had the posh fish fingers and chips. He loved that he could have a walk around in the outdoor patio bbq area and made friends with another customers friendly dog. Staff are always lovely and attentive. We’ve tried most local pubs for a roast and we always come back here and never disappointed. Parking is free and accessible too, bonus for our local area.
