About Cricketers

Quaint choice with an open kitchen & à la carte menu offering seasonal French-American cuisine.

Traditional inn located beside Downside village green, with a large beer garden at the front. The original building dates back to the 17th century. Internal decor reflects the pub’s age, with heavy oak beams, crooked walls and a large brick fireplace, in which a log fire burns in winter. Extensive food menu includes standard pub fare and more exotic specials. Separate restaurant open whenever pub is open. Giant Jenga and Connect-4 available to play.

Only just got in, exceptionally busy at lunchtime. Excellent modules marinere. The steak pie though wasn't all that good. It was soggy. Very thin pastry with more mushrooms than meat. But we'd happily return and try other items on the menu.

Lovely lunch out on the terrace, nothing bad say all was very good

It was a lovely dining experience. The staff were fast and it's obviously very popular. The pub itself is very charming, watch your head in the bar area if you're over 6ft tall though. Even people of my average height will want to avoid walking with a spring in your step 🤣 the garden area is also lovely. Check your bill carefully - we were charged for something the table behind us had. Staff sorted it quickly though. There's also something on the menu that promises extra roasted potatoes and Yorkshire puddings if you want them but this was never offered in practice. Overall a good…

Absolutely delightful Sunday roast experience! The bottomless veggies were a perfect touch. The staff went above and beyond—attentive, incredibly friendly, making our time truly enjoyable. The food, particularly the roasties, surpassed expectations, a solid 10/10.

A first visit, and the staff were excellent. Food was pretty good, too! I would happily return. It's a chain pub, but the food is better than most chain pubs.
