About Cricketers
This weatherboarded pub with a brick extension is in an idyllic setting next to a pond with its waterfowl, and opposite the cricket green. Unsurprisingly, this makes it busy in good weather. It is claimed to be over 250 years old, and was two cottages with parts that were once police stables, becoming a pub in 1836. The building itself largely dates from that time. It is divided into two wood floored bar areas, while to the rear is a split level area used more for dining. There is a mixture of high and low, soft and wood seating. Regular quizzes and poker nights.

Arrived at a rather difficult time with a rugby game in progress so the pub was full. However we managed to find a big table on the upper floor. As a foreigner who hasnt visited many English pubs I mus say I liked the atmosphere. Food was OK but not special, best choice was the beef rib. Gammon steak was interesting but very salty and not tastier than Smoked ham (although looked a lot like it). Burger OK. I liked the sweet potato tiger fries. I believe the place would be even better in the summer when sitting outside by the lake,

A pub with all the potential in the world sadly let down by how it’s being run. It’s a chaotic mix of bar and table service, neither of which was being done well. If you try and please everyone, you please no one as is the case here. I ordered a pint and a tea at the bar and was told they’d bring the tea to the table. The tea hadn’t come and after 20 minutes I went to the bar and chased it up. It was sat at the end of the bar waiting and the young chap put it on a tray and asked a young female colleague whether it was my tea and they said yes. They both walked off leaving the tray for me to…

Lovely food & pleasant experience with great service . Very attentive waitress (obviously picking good staff which makes a huge difference). Parking was not great so We parked a short distance which was not an issue (we parked in Westhill Avenue). This was not a biggie. It’s also dog friendly which was lovely for Indi (our Sprocker … woof)

We went on a weeknight, great food so likely will visit again owing to separate gluten-free menu too. Appreciate the chef was able to accommodate for us, despite only one chef present so kitchen closing early. However, could do better in terms of welcome from bar staff, felt a bit aloof, so missed on five stars from me.

Not Great. This is a classic case of 'that looks like a really nice pub so will probably do a nice lunch...' only to really disappoint. It's a quaint building sandwiched into a semi rural setting overlooking a pond. Sure it looks like a nice place to have a few beers in, nice bar area and ambient. Very friendly (if frantic) service from overstretched staff, but unfortunately the food was really not very good...poor even. Lamb shank and roast turkey....meat was ok in both cases, but the food was just about luke warm, plates were cold, turkey needed way more gravy than the spoonful that…
