About Dog & Bell
Real ales and imported lagers are served at this traditional pub with a welcoming vibe.
An oasis in an area that has become something of a pub graveyard as the loss of local waterside industry killed off passing trade. A pub of this name has occupied this back street near the Thames for several hundred years, surviving now on its reputation for real ale, excellent food and events such as its celebrated annual Pickle Festival. Five or more cask beers with a varied selection of interesting guest ales always available. One or more box ciders are usually also available. Parents with young children should beware of the steps where the floor is split level. Folk music on Wednesday evenings and quiz night on Sunday. Long-standing owners Charlie & Eileen retired in December 2016 and the pub is now run by their tenant. In autumn 2022 the pub extended into the former ground floor flat next door. 15 handpumps in three banks, each of 5. There is also an extensive range of Belgian bottled beers available.
Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2020 & 2021. Local CAMRA branch Lewisham District Pub of the Year 2023 and 2024.

I really enjoyed the sausage festival with a great variety and beautiful people. I really loved the atmosphere and ambience of the pub. I will definitely go back again for great food and drinks

The nicest pub in London that I have ever stepped into. They've got at least 20 superb Belgian bottled ales available, currently under £7 apiece. The staff is genuinely nice. And if the weather is pleasant, they have plenty of outdoor seating on a quiet street.

I had a fantastic experience at The Dog and Bell in Deptford. The pepper squid was delicious and paired perfectly with a couple of Guinness. The food, drinks, and decor were all top-notch. Highly recommend this spot for a great meal and atmosphere!

A great little spot away from the commercialisation of Greenwich, this independent pub in Deptford is far superior to the ones closer to the centre. It has a fantastic whisky and tap selection, and when we visited, there was a cider and sausage festival with pints of farmhouse for just £5. Live music was on, which really added to the vibe. As an Irish pub, it’s friendly and social, with a busy pool room out back. Honestly, there’s something for everyone here. Decent prices, fun events, and friendly bar staff—all while being independent. What’s not to love?

I feel like my week is not complete without a trip to the dog and bell. Pint of Guinness and food is unbelievable. 9.5/10 on my Guinness list
