About Drapers Arms

Green-hued gastropub with high ceilings, chandeliers and checkerboard floor in upstairs dining room.

Period pub re-opened in 2001 after being closed for over 3 years and reverting to its original name. Built by the Drapers Livery Company it probably originally had three bars. It has been opened up around a central bar and three fireplaces, and has a light and airy feel. It has a mixture of pub furniture, dining tables and settees. Apparently, Islington Labour Party was founded here in an upstairs room, so now you know who to blame! The pub closed again in 2008 but reopened bought by Ben Maschler (son of restaurant critic, Fay Maschler), who has expressed a firm commitment to keeping the Drapers very much as a pub for locals, as well as one offering good food and wines. Certainly, the comprehensive refurbishment has been sensitively handled and the pub and upstairs dining room look all but the same as before. The intention is to continue with a policy of regular guest beers and there are three real ales on at present. Per their website, their dining room is available for private hire for parties of up to 50 people.

I recently celebrated my 40th birthday here. The food was great, the vibe relaxed and the service was exceptional! I highly recommend using their private dining room if you have an event / celebration. The process of booking was really straight forward with lots of food options to choose from. My flowers were beautifully arranged and and the timing of the courses was perfect. We were looked after by Louis during the evening and he was a total super star and made sure everything went smoothly! Thanks so much for making it such a great night!

📍The Drapers Arms 🌍 Islington 🏛 Classy looking pale blue frontage, carefully distressed and minimalist indoors. The bright green bar is a bit of an anomaly. 🍺Interesting selection of lesser known beers. Also wine on taps though. There's a blackboard listing a selection of cocktails at around £10-£14. 🙋‍♂️ I like the Drapers, it's definitely clutter free which is sometimes a good way to calm a busy mind. A little more decoration wouldn't hurt as the place is very pale blue inside too. Otherwise I guess it lets the conversation, food and drink do the talking. There appeared to be one…

A nice place in Islington for Sunday Roast. The food was very good, but like everything in London will run you $80 a person for a complete meal, Starter, drinks dessert etc.. Service was ok, no smiles and we were forgotten a few times. The place is very well designed and quaint.

Only had a couple of beers with a work associate, but will certainly be returning to enjoy what is a lovely space, good range of ales, and an impressive kitchen/menu. But what I really love is a place that relies on that natural vibrancy created by people. No 'background' music, just a beautiful place for people to spend time.

Really good roast, split the lamb & chicken between 6 people and was definitely enough food! Lamb was really tender and tasted great, the chicken was a bit dry, which was a shame. Potatoes were perfect, always key to a good roast. Good service and atmosphere, would recommend although make sure you order your Yorkshires separately!
