About Duke of Wellington
Corner gastropub with funky blue-green walls and furniture, framed pop art and stencilled murals.
Built in 1854 and designed probably by Thomas Pocock, it was enlarged in 2001 when knocked through into the former shop next door, giving a two room layout. Located on a corner of Portobello Road, this Young’s pub is at the heart of the present-day market and attracts many visitors as well as being patronised by locals. The interior features an impressive island bar with a tall bar-back, surrounded by partitioned recesses in dark wood topped with etched glass. The pavement tables are particularly in demand on Saturdays and during the summer months.
The food offering includes pies and classic pub mains, and Sunday roasts.
As at end of 2021 mid-pandemic a reduction to one of the previous three/four cask ales had been noted. There were two on a November 2023 visit. Further updates welcome.

We came down to Portabello Street Market and popped in for lunch. It was crowded (of course noon on Saturday). But the staff was super friendly and the food was great! People filtered in and out and we got a table. Fish and chips and cask ale was amazing. Friendly staff, Mark in particular was very nice!

Fun view from the upstairs window. Slavi took great care of us. We went for fish & chips & bangers & mash, which was delish. Also, big fans of the Hugo Spritz.

This place serves one of the best Sunday roasts we've had in recent memory! We were lucky enough to snag a window seat, which added to the comfortable and cozy atmosphere. I also highly recommend trying their fish and chips; the portion size is incredibly generous. Friendly staff. We had an absolutely fantastic time here :)

What a pleasant surprise to wander into this beautiful pub and restaurant. Our bartenders/servers, Slavi & Dan, immediately made us feel welcome. It was so nice to come off the street, after walking several thousand steps during a lovely Portobello Market, to be greeted in this way and receive five-star service. Props to the back of the house as well, as our burgers were some of the best we’ve had in Europe - so fresh! . Appreciated the recommendation of the Camden Hells Lager - delicious, as was the Guinness. Visit this place with confidence. Highly recommend.

Bella made my dining experience unforgettable, not just through impeccable service but by inspiring me to be a better person. From the moment I arrived, she greeted me with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm that instantly elevated my mood. Her attentiveness was remarkable, anticipating my needs before I even realized them. She had an uncanny ability to balance professionalism with personal connection, making me feel like the most important person in the room. Throughout the meal, Bella's kindness and positive energy were infectious. She took the time to engage in thoughtful conversation…
