About Eagle
Victorian pub namechecked in the rhyme Pop Goes the Weasel, with courtyard garden and weekly quiz.
The Eagle is a very cosy pub with a warm welcome from the staff. The pub has four real ale pumps, with three real ales on at the time of a visit in May 2023 - being Salt Tweed, Birmingham Pale Brummie & Bays Orangutan. Also has a QR code you can scan to see what Real Ales are on next. Traditional British pub food is on offer, including Sunday roasts. In Summer the beer garden is a real asset and is the perfect way to spend an evening.
The Eagle Tavern, Grecian Theatre Pleasure Grounds and Grecian Saloon and Olympic Theatre once stood here (1825-99) and it was where Marie Lloyd, the music hall artiste, gave her first public performance. Made famous in the song - Up and down the City Road, in and out The Eagle, That's the way the money goes, Pop goes the weasel. Leather workers would pawn or pop their tools (weasels) for a drink. This is a more, modern open plan pub, with large picture windows and a very pleasant, secluded beer garden.

The atmosphere and location are nice, but it was really overpriced for what it was. The salad itself lacked a good dressing/balsamic to tie it together. The food also took quite a while considering it wasn't at all busy, and the serving was lackluster. The outdoor area was nice and so was my drink!

A charming pub. The staff are polite and helpful. They happily interact with customers without being intrusive. There is a beer garden at the rear that is covered a has heating. Not too far from Old Street tube station. The toilet is clean.

Wow. As I first sank my teeth into this meaty disk betwixt brioche buns my pupils dilated and I was transported to my childhood in Oaxaca where my abuela would rustle me up one or two of these exact things with some continental pints to boot. I will certainly be returning to see what else the head chef at The Eagle has to offer to the discerning diner.

I had booked a spot in the garden for my birthday celebrations, had a nice large area for us to all be able to gather and chat. The communication before and on the day was great. Staff on the day were lovely. Great drinks selection. I ordered from the buffet menu for guests and everyone was very complimentary about the food. Portions for the buffet are generous. Overall, was perfect for my day!

Humble little pub in the heart of old street, incredible food and atmosphere. One of the best roasts we’ve had! And the staff were super friendly and kind. Glad to have found my new local pub.
