Gate Clock, Greenwich

About Gate Clock

Airy chain pub offering real ale plus British grub including breakfast, free WiFi and outside seats.

Although lacking any noteworthy views, this pub is near all the main Greenwich attractions. Customers are an international and occupational mix of students, city professionals, the retired, tourists and locals. During local University terms this pub is very much the heart of student social life. A modest and contemporary building with drinking and eating set over two floors, plus a small area of covered seating outside at the front. Convenient for Greenwich Park, the Old Royal Naval College and the National Maritime Museum. The ground floor bar counter has 10 handpumps in 2 banks, each of 5. The upstairs bar has 5 handpumps and operates for shorter hours than the downstairs bar.

The food we ordered arrived and I’m pretty sure the main meal burger and chips was a childrens meal, the chips were not cooked, the chicken in the curry was inedible, the cheesy chips very much lacked the “cheesy” part and when questioned it to the staff was simply told that was the allocated amount of cheese you get and totally unhelpful. Staff are pretty much as awful as the food, and the state of the toilets are disgusting. Massive let down compared to most other Wetherspoons.

Not the best Spoons. I’ve been here three times now and had service issues on all occasions. I don’t think the issue here is the staff, it seems to be the management. It takes absolutely forever to be served and when you do, it takes forever for food and drink to arrive (via app) or ordered at the bar. The place is a cluttered mess of uncleared plates and glasses, along with sticky tables. It really isn’t aligned to the usual high standards found at other Spoons pubs. *Please Wetherspoon* sort this pub out!!

Service was quick. Food wasn't as hot as it could have been, but passable. Again, as in some other spoons I have experienced, different portion sizes for the same meal. Our table had ordered among others two triple American cheese burgers. One plate had burgers that resembled a McDonald's burgers, flat and thin, bearing able to find under the bun. The other 3 fat juicy burgers. Each one big enough to hide all three of the other plates' burgers. Needless to say, we didn't order any more food. We finished our drinks and left. Is this becoming the norm now at spoons. I know they are cheaper…

Wetherspoons in Greenwich has quickly become our go-to pub! One of the best things about this branch is the unbeatable beer prices – it's the cheapest we've come across compared to other Wetherspoon locations in London. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a wide selection of drinks at such affordable prices.

The prices are unbeatable, and the roadside seating outside is a nice touch for enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Greenwich.
