About George
Classic hostelry showing TV sport and turning out modern pub grub, plus real ales and terrace.
The George, with its good food and beer, is a traditional pub during the day, changing to a lively atmosphere at night. You can watch Sky Sports & Bt Sport here – recognised as the greatest pub in the area and located near the cinema and restaurants. The pub has a history of over 200 years.
History:
There were five inns in Woodford in 1735 - The George, White Hart, Ship & Castle, New Wells and Old Wells. The number of these licensed premises rose to 9 by 1828.
The George at Church End, which existed as Horns Inn in 1657, is now a two story red brick building from the 18th Century.
The George still manages to retain the atmosphere of a Coaching Hostelry and has a wonderful barn on the George Lane site.

Lovely pub, spacious outdoor beer garden (great on sunny days). First time I ate there I had the roast on a Sunday with my mother-in-law and now I'm a returning customer. Portions were generous, really delicious as well. Lovely staff - really friendly and helpful, especially Barry. Definitely recommend The George.

Stopped in randomly after work and thoroughly enjoyed. Barry behind the bar was great! Will return based on the service. Lovely outside area for the sunny days. All in all, an enjoyable pub visit

THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST PUBS I'VE EVER BEEN TO. I ordered food on a Friday night, it took them over an hour to make the food. I finished 2 pints and still my food wasn't ready. I was so hungry I walked out and went to eat at a pub across the road. I came back 2 hours later to get a refund as I had not been served, the manager on shift was so rude and arrogant 😤 he told me that the looked for me but couldn't find me. What an absolute joke as they have table numbers. I asked for a refund and they treated to call the call police, I told them to do so as I wanted my money back. They then…
