Can't wait to go back. Sat by the kitchen, I was tempted by almost every meal that was walked past me. We had: • scotch eggs (starter) • prawn salad (starter) • fish finger sandwich • beef burger • mutton nuggets (starter) • mac n cheese (side) Cocktails were also perfect on this warm sunny day where we got to sit in the garden after our meal. Highly recommend.

Superb neighbourhood pub in Wanstead backstreet. Attractive “gastropub” interior; charming sheltered beer garden. Lunch for two with drinks came in under £40 and the food was sensational - the birria beef shin toastie among the tastiest things I’ve ever eaten.

A BIG SHOUT OUT TO LEE THE CHEF Lee the chef is probably the best thing about this pub. Recently, Lee cooked me a steak and it was excellent, and he is a really good guy. I promised him a good review. To add, unfortunately there are two members of the bar staff who are rude. Note to owner: remind them that we pay their wages.

We had come for celebration of life . The staff had arranged little bowls of stew and curries organized by the family member. Great idea. I believed what was left could be taken home. Loved the seating area outside. Staff also made sure we had drinks. Not go without. I noticed they have music night for a couple of hours. And not late.

Yesterday we visited The Duke for a Sunday roast. I was there a couple of times in the past and it was always lovely. So I invited my friend and her son, who came all the way from Paddington. The biggest let down from the start was our waitress, a ginger haired lady. We sat in the garden, where it was only us and two other tables. She took 15minutes to come and take an order from us. We ordered starters that were nice and arrived quickly after. And some roasts, and one roast to also take away. It took 1 hour 10 minutes for us to receive roasts. It was not tasty and potatoes were hard as if it…
