About Grapes

Narrow downstairs bar with small Thames-side terrace and upstairs restaurant dating from 1583.

Very nice riverside pub with views of the Thames. Two downstairs rooms and one upstairs, both rear rooms have an outside terrace overlooking the river. Grade II Listed Building with frosted glass windows that you can imagine go back in time, hence a reminder painted sign dated 1949 in the bar is on show. There has been a pub here for nearly 500 years. It makes a (barely disguised) appearance in “Our Mutual Friend” - Charles Dickens (whose portrait is on the wall) knew the area well. Gandalf’s staff stands behind the bar, donated by local resident and a leaseholder of the pub, Sir Ian McKellan but Under 18's are not allowed. Now Greene King (Spirit) , ex-Taylor Walker..

Popped in for a few pints yesterday. The staff were very friendly and quick service. Loved the staff behind the bar, was cool to see in person! Lots of nice snugs to sit in, and lovely views onto the river.

Beautiful pub! Like a trip back to the Dickensian era. Good service too these people know what they’re doing clashing 500 year old history with modern life 👏👏👏

A beautiful pub with an amazing atmosphere and a very welcoming staff. The food was very delicious and very well portioned. Don't forget to check upstairs for a wonderful view of the Thames.

The history of the place is astonishing and well worth a visit and extra stars. The atmosphere is great. However, the only place to sit was upstairs, with signs saying restaurant upstairs, so imagine our surprise when we saw old wooden casks to eat our meals and balance our drinks. Charlie's fish and chips was decent, he felt, but my hamburger was strange, with a spongy texture. I couldn't finish it. I'd go back for a beer, but I wouldn't order food again.

This place has been here for a long time and was frequented by Charles Dickens. It shows its history and age from the first time you see it outside to walking in. It’s a little cramped but somehow it works. Good selection of brews and was served quickly and warmly, even though there was a line. Could not spend as much time here as I liked due to a prior commitment, but definitely will spend more time here next time I’m in London.
