About Haverstock Tavern

Seasonal British eats & Sunday roast served in a storied pub with classic interiors & a beer garden.

24/05/23 - pub now offers a 10% discount to CAMRA Members. Handy for a pre-gig event if visiting the Roundhouse. At the end of 2019 it reopened as the Haverstock Tavern. Confirmed three cask beers on. Suspect a beer from Leeds might be a regular and perhaps the Pride but we shall see.

This is how it was -

Est 1721. Rebuilt in 1863. Reverted to its original name (Load of Hay) in 2016 after 14 years as the Hill. Cosmetically changed in the last incarnation (Belrose). Fairly spacious with a small room adjoining the main bar, grey and cream decor, tall bar-back with mirrors and pilasters. One of the pictures shows it as The Hill.

The atmosphere is nice, but having to wait 50 minutes for a subpar bit of "salted caramel brownie" with the wrong kind of ice cream that never would have arrived if they weren't reminded leaves a terrible impression. Drink options are pretty good though.

Good location and and efficient service, let down by poor quality food. £22 roughly a head for the roast. Moderate portions but more than ample. Vegetarian dish, I'd rate. Meat (lamb) however was poor, way too much fat. Surprised a plate would be sent out like that to be honest. Potatoes (touch charcoal-ed) and yorkshire puddings overdone. Shame as I liked the atmosphere of the place. Wines good and can understand the locals appreciating a jar or two here but to travel over over an hour and a half for it I'd need better fare. Sorry 😕

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. We really enjoyed the food, we all had roasts and the quality was evident in the cooking of everything, including the vegetables, excellent nut roast too, delicious. Friendly, enthusiastic staff, a range of great beers, wines well-chosen also. And I've learned there's a fortnightly jazz night on a Tuesday, so I'm definitely up for that. Nice one!

Very well maintained pub on the High street. Cosy and warm. A main room and a smaller area. Ideal either for an intimate drink or a higher group. Railway Porter at £4 during lunch Hapoy hour. Disappointingly I had to ask to adjust the head of my pint as it was well under the minimum. 8/10

Nice and helpful staff, good outdoor seating area, variety of good beers, cider, wine and alcohol drinks. It was a Sunday afternoon and the kitchen was closed so didn’t get chance to eat there but hopefully will try their food next time .
