About Hero
Following a period of closure, this site was taken over by The Public House Group and reopened in May 2024, now named The Hero. The four-storey space comprises a pub on the ground floor also serving food, a more formal grill room on the first floor, a cocktail bar and a top-floor private events area with its own bar.
The ground-floor pub has a zinc-topped bar with bronze-effect pumps and taps but with all beers advertised via chalkboards; a fireplace, and a de-silvered mirror with the daily food specials. It has been described as "evoking a steampunk tavern style of old London town in the 1830s that never truly existed until now"! The food offering includes pub favourites but also oysters and quail for those on more relaxed budgets. Three ales are on offer with at least one from the Allsopp's range. The venue is card-only.
The operator Public House Group also runs the highly-successful Pelican pub in Notting Hill. It is understood that the Public House Group is backed, in part, by investment management firm BNP Capital.

It was absolutely lovely! The place is magical! Has so much style and charm. Clientele is classy and polite. Staff is really professional and super friendly. Food was yum! Blackcurrant sorbet was a bomb! I don’t eat gluten and dairy and they were very careful and helpful with my dietary restrictions. Quite a few options on the menu even for someone like me. Loved it!!! 100% recommend. Locals hidden gem

Sitting inside in the summer feels amazing with the wooden decor, cute dogs, and beautiful people. 💕 The menu changes often. 🙌Highly recommend the Scotch egg, roasted quail, vegetable salad, and tomato crab soup. They were delicious and memorable. The mini sausages were a bit salty but great with drinks. 🙌The jelly dessert had an interesting texture, and the ice cream was slightly sour but refreshing. 🫶It was lovely watching boys drinking beer and chatting outside the wooden windows, couples inside, an old man dining alone, and dogs lying on the floor. 🐶 🍃 Summer in London is truly…

Couldn’t fault this place! Staff were so lovely and genuine and the food was 10/10. Menu was super simple and they nailed everything we ordered. We had the mackerel pate and then the steak and chips and would 100% recommend! The vibe in there was super chilled but perfect for a Friday night -We will be back!

It is a wonderful option for dining in this part of town. Two options are available, pub classics menu, which can be ordered downstairs, or the Grill Room upstairs, which is a little bit more formal but easy at the same time. The food was exceptional in the Grill Room, especially the monkfish main with shoestring fries. Professional and friendly service topped off a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Big shout out to Joe, who made me feel very welcome.

Excellent starter. This is not your average cheese toastie. Oozing gooey cheese with a tangy pickle. Disappointing main. Cheese and onion pie was more an onion pie, filled with onions and barely any cheese. Over seasoned and unlike any cheese and onion pie I've had before (being a northerner, this is always my go to, if on a menu). Mash was smooth and buttery and a generous portion of greens.
