About Marquis of Granby

Traditional pub with dark wood interior and outdoor seating, former haunt of Dylan Thomas.

Busy corner pub, popular with tourists, office workers and postal staff from the nearby sorting office. One of the few pubs in the area not generally frequented by the wartime Fitzrovia crowd as it was then looked on as too violent; which is why Dylan Thomas is said to have come here to pick fights with the guardsmen who had themselves dropped in to pick on or pick up homosexuals. The present pub dates from 1897 and specialises in cask beers and gin.

Lovely quaint pub just off of Oxford Street, full of lively people with an electric atmosphere for the Euro game on Saturday 6th, my mum and I visited and were seated by Deetee. Himself, Nidhi and the staff working at 5pm that day in particular were fantastic. Deetee made us feel so welcome, was so chatty and was interested in myself being from an alternate Nicholson’s in the North West - my mum also commented that he was the ‘MVP of The Marquis’ during our visit along with the young man in the Nicholson’s top collecting the glasses in and brought our food out. She loved it, which is what…

If you’re gluten free I would avoid this place. Lovely staff and atmosphere but a lot of confusion from the kitchen as to what contains gluten. My meal was sent back and still came out wrong as kitchen claimed there was gluten in the rice, quinoa and kale. Otherwise great place and helpful staff. The server took my meal off the bill and made it right. I believe they even gave my husband a free dessert. My husband is not gluten free and loved his meal so I’m sure the other options are wonderful however we went based on reviews saying it was gluten friendly and it unfortunately wasn’t.

Standard beers which are good and the service was great however we ordered some chips which has to be the smallest bowl of chips for £5 in London. Then got a large nachos and for £11 got a handful of bland chips, fake (I think it was cheese) a spoonful of toppings. Very disappointed in the food!
