About Nags Head
Large, busy pub with Victorian interior serving McMullens' draught beers and traditional pub food.
There has been a pub of this name on all or part of this site since at least the 1670s. The present pub was rebuilt in 1900 for the licensed victualler who had occupied the previous building, and was designed by PE Pilditch. This Grade II listed building is described by the Survey of London as "a fairly restrained example of neo-Jacobean public-house architecture". The Covent Garden Area Trust is more effusive: "The smart red and gold fascia signs, the high quality engraved and gilt glass window signs and the hanging bracket sign are all models of traditional pub signs and could not be bettered". It was bought by McMullen in 1927 for the sum of £7525, and some of the tile-work on the floor dates from that period.
It is now a large and generally busy establishment in the heart of Covent Garden. The customer area forms three sides of an oblong around the bar, which has three handpumps. The wide food menu includes brunch, sandwiches, pub favourites and Sunday roasts.
Note at weekends that alcohol may not be sold until 10am under the terms of the licence.

We’re visiting from Australia and, after spending 4 hours exploring the incredible British Museum and wandering through Covent Garden Market, we were ready for a late lunch around 2pm. When we stepped into this authentic British pub, we were welcomed by a friendly atmosphere, though it was quite busy downstairs. Luckily, we found a cosy, quieter space upstairs that was thoughtfully decorated and had a quirky charm. Cameron greeted us warmly and was incredibly helpful when we couldn’t decide on drinks. After a long day of sightseeing, the Porn Star Martini was just what we needed. For…

This was a fun find!! The staff was really friendly and great to interact with. The meat and ale pie was amazing (I didn't even get a pic) 😍 I'm a mushroom lover so I would have loved it even more with mushrooms.... But the cheesecake was absolutely divine 🤤 I should have skipped the appetizer just so I could eat more of that cheesecake (the pic is of the 2nd slice 🍰 when I stopped myself long enough)!!!

Had a delicious meal of bangers and mash, plus sides of chips and salad. Washed down with Helles Ale! Fantastic lunch time place to time some time. Genuinely friendly staff. Great job.

Lovely old London traditional pub. Serving different to just the mainstream beers and lagers. A nice piece of old London.
