About Old Bank Of England

Pies and pints under high ceilings with large artworks in the former Bank of England's Law Courts.

This Grade II listed building was, until 1975, the Law Courts branch of the Bank of England and then a Bristol & West Building Society office. After a period of time as a Fuller's pub, latterly one of their Ale & Pie establishments, the lease reverted to owners McMullens in early 2019 and the pub is now directly managed by them.

The pub was given a refurbishment in early 2020 and, whereas the ornate high ceilings complete with chandeliers and the gallery beneath it were retained, the island bar was replaced with a modern metal work structure with similarly styled booths alongside. The rear courtyard now features a classic Routemaster bus, craned in during the McMullens refurb! This is used as a bar in fine weather.

The ale range is now entirely from the McMullen brewery, complemented by a menu offering typical pub grub.

There are three function areas but occasionally the whole pub may be booked out so do check before making a special visit.

One of my favourite pubs in London so far! This place has a long history (built in 1886), and the atmosphere and interior are absolutely stunning! The food and drinks are lovely and very British. It's the best place to bring visitors who are in London for the first time.

A beautiful and historic pub with great service, delicious food & amazing interiors. We had the garlic & truffle fries followed by a butternut squash and chickpea pie, both of which were outstanding! The staff are also really nice. It does get quite busy post 7pm which is understandable. Definitely one of my favorite pubs in London!

A fancy pub in a classic building of an old bank. We got fish and chips and a steak. Happy to find out that they serve Hugo (my favourite spritz). The inside area is well-decorated and there is also a nice outside area in the back.

This historic old building has been beautifully restored there is an abundant amount of gold guilting accenting all of the chandeliers and wall trimmings. Very nice selection of beers and cask aged ales. They also have a good variety of liquor. The vibe is fantastic and a great place to hang out.

If you are going to relax somewhere and have a drink, why not do it in a pretty venue. Quite a busy place, might not get a table easily. Had some halloumi fries and pork scratchings too. All good.
