About Princess Victoria
Restored Victorian gin palace with thoughtfully sourced dishes, plus real ales, wine & cocktails.
Built in 1829, various refurbishments have remained sympathetic to the Victorian architecture of this pub, retaining its fireplaces, skylights, intricate cornices and other mouldings, resulting in an attractive interior. Also preserved is the horseshoe-shaped bar which offers 40 beers, three in winter but just one in summer from its hand-pumps, and (reputedly) over 100 gins. The bar room, with its big windows, is furnished with comfortable seating including some leather banquettes. Beyond it is the spacious restaurant, but the interesting menu is available in both areas.
Since 2017 the site has been under the management of Three Cheers Pub Company, via Six Cheers Ltd, its partnership with Ei Managed Investments. Our thanks to Three Cheers Pub Co for the use of certain pictures in this WhatPub entry. The former tram stop in front of the pub has now been converted to a terrace to supplement the existing courtyard to the rear. The whole of each of these spaces can be reserved for functions as alternatives to the attractive 1829 Room upstairs. Upstairs is also a boutique hotel, its five rooms each named after a different gin cocktail.
Various food and drink offers are available on the pub website.

Yesterday 18/07 went for my Birthday dinner with my family. On booking I did mention that is Birthday dinner, however nobody seems to know that.Bar service was confusing and slow ,not poticulary busy around 6.30pm. My booking was for 7.30pn ,than things get worst. Waitress who served was rude and cold, poor service. No good evening ,no smile ,just very unpleasant on taking our orders. We ordered starters and bottle of white wine.Startes are came before wine ,and when I asked about my wine , apparently they still searching for it in cellar. No any apology before that for waiting ,no after that when…

I am in a room right now as I am writing this (currently 1am) For some strange reason, even though "it shuts at midnight," there is still music being played in the function room downstairs, people banging things and talking really loud. The bass from the music is vibrating through the room. Absolute joke. Wouldn't bother staying unless you are looking for a sleepless night. Definitely won't be staying ever again

Great room (although some road noise). Clean and tidy and stylish. Good food in the restaurant with amazing service by staff rushing around and totally on the ball - brilliant!
