About Queen's Head
Attractive and traditional pub with open fireplaces, dating from 1565, and named following a visit to Downe by Queen Elizabeth I. The pub is situated in the centre of the historic country village but is less than 20 minutes by bus from Bromley or Orpington. Charles Darwin lived at nearby Down House (English Heritage) and was allegedly a patron.
The four hand pumps normally include Harveys Sussex plus local beers often including Westerham or Bexley and others sourced nationally.
There are several dining areas benefiting from a daily menu which includes home-made pies and locally sourced fish specials. Hot refreshments and cakes are available from the integral tea shop. Last orders for food are 30 minutes before the food times shown.
The pub is popular with walkers, cyclists and locals all year round, as well as visitors to Down House.
Please check the pub's website for any changes to opening hours and food service.

Absolutely amazing food. We were just passing by the town and had lunch there. Totally didn’t expect the quality to be so great we all had fish dishes and they were all delicious. My fish and chips was one of the best I’ve had in years.

We had a late lunch here, food was just ok, basic pub British foods, There could have been more dishes but the service was 5*plus, polite, helpful made sure customers were happy. A young lady there was very pleasant, Thank you

We had the most amazing Valentine’s Day celebration dinner tonight! Nigel and Jackie’s exceptional food and hospitality never fail to impress. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth, from the welcoming atmosphere and log burning fire. As always, they have outdone themselves once again. It’s always a bonus that they welcome dogs too! Highly recommend for any occasion

Old Worlde Pub with eclectic interior bang in the Center of quaint old Downe home of Charles Darwin. Lovely warm welcome from charming young bar team. Great service and dap hands at pulling a number of pints of Harvey's Bitter. The beer is exceptionally well cellared as you might expect from Camra Pub of The Year 2014. Jackie greeted us as old regulars as we had thoughtful pre ordered lunches. Glad we did for as soon as paid wooooosh out they came. Dear reader these various dishes were exceptional - fresh, varied and home cooked meats and veg - perfectly reasonable prices in todays market…

Was really impressed. We were just passing while walking a trail. Was only hoping for a decent Guinness and some food. Ended up having perfect Guinness and one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I had the skate. It was just incredible. Really special. I never write reviews but I wanted to leave something as this place was so unexpectedly great.
