About Richard I
Traditional pub with saloon and public bars, streetside seating and a large, heated beer garden.
Located in quiet Royal Hill on the edge of Greenwich town centre and popular with locals. Often nicknamed Tolly's after a previous brewery owner of the pub, Tolly Cobbold until the 1970s. The long, narrow bar area opens out into a large, airy conservatory that was added as part of a 2014 refurbishment. Beyond the conservatory is a spacious, heated garden area. In March 2022 the pub underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, including extending into the former Greenwich Union pub next door.

The staff were lovely and although the Sunday roast was tasty, the portions were unbelievably stingy. See pics* mine was a children's chicken roast £10; one potato, tiny piece of chicken and one carrot chopped into two halves 😂 My cousin ordered the royal roast which is 2 meats, he got beef and pork. Again, tasty but ridiculously stingy; 2 potatoes 🤣 and just one carrot! He ordered one beer which with his roast came to £34😳 I dunno, vegetables are so cheap, I just think they could have bulked the meal with them, how most places generally do. Great facilities for dogs, clean bowls for water…

I really love how big that place is! Very vibrant and stylish!! Bravo!!!! 👏🏻 but Sunday roast was not super, sadly, my meat (beef) had lots of vein and I had to chew it and saw it with no luck and still only few pieces of meat was eatable… my sister in law liked her fish and chips. So I think next time I give it a try but no Sunday roast for me in this place - thanks pass :)

Amazing Sunday roast!! We tried the royal roast with three different types of meat. Great portions, very tasty food and good quality service. In addition to that, the pub it's super nice, bright and cosy, with fair prices. Highly recommend.

Lovely interior and spacious with a skylight! Food was average in my opinion, the roast wasn’t very special and drinks are a bit on the pricer end!

£4 for 1 lonely slice of dried out (obviously not freshly sliced) bread with enough lovely garlic butter for 4 slices. 🤷♂️ Beer garden large but a bit sad and unloved and (other than the murals) lacking in any joy, uniqueness or cosy areas. Huge waste of what could be an amazing space. Sort it out and it could be the place to come in Greenwich on a sunny afternoon. I wouldn’t take visitors again to the garden as it is. Suggest visiting some other pubs to remember what a great beer garden looks and feels like and the brewery invests some money fixing it up.
