About Silver Cross

Large, split-level traditional pub with spacious dining area and flagstone floors.

A sprawling early 20th century pub on ground floor and basement levels. Low ceilings nonetheless make for an intimate atmosphere, although TV sports are available. The downstairs bar, used for overflow at busy times, is available for functions. There is a wide food offering including pub classics, Sunday roasts and a kids' menu. See venue website for meal deals.

The name Silver Cross is recorded in an 1861 document referred to in British History Online but at some time after the Great War the pub sign was changed to display the Canadian Memorial Cross medal, first presented in 1919 to mothers of fallen Canadian forces members and nursing sisters.

The pub was renovated in early 2024 to a high standard, reportedly costing a six-figure sum. The old sign was replaced by a new one depicting King Charles II with a King Charles spaniel head. The previous sign showing the Silver Cross is in our photo.

Great stop after a log day of sightseeing. The steak and Ale pie and fish n chips were great. You order drinks at the bar, and there was a good selection. The pub was full of football fans watching the World Cup games. Typical festive pub atmosphere. It was a bit of a wait for the food, but they were very busy.

Nice pub at a nice location. The food and the house beer need some improvement though. I ordered nachos but it wasn’t close to being a proper nachos plate. There was no guacamole, instead it was big chunks of avocado. Salsa tasted wrong. Cheese wasn’t enough. The spicy flavour was from chips itself not the pepper - there was no pepper. Smashed potatoes could be better with a different presentation. Fries were ok. BLT was ok, nothing special though. That applies to the house beer as well. The atmosphere is good. It makes you thirsty :) The staff is friendly but for some reason some…

Super cute atmosphere, the food is good, and the staff is absolutely lovely. I didn't like my steak so they changed it for me so easy, and they even apologized several times. Try the pie and mac and cheese was delicious.

Lovely pub with a good selection of drinks and a good menu with reasonable prices. The pub had looked busy when we entered as it was lunchtime. However, we ventured downstairs, where it was cool and a lot quieter. Food came reasonably quickly and was well cooked and nice 😋

This place is well located. Very nice pub, they have a variety of beers for those who like to taste different things. Is in a very transited area across from Trafalgar Theatre. Definitely is a touristic place. Food is very average, nothing wow or even good. The chicken breast I ordered seemed overcooked. The steak pie is interesting, although the taste wasn’t that good. Something I liked, is that you pick a table, then order and pay from the bar, they will bring your food to the table. You can add the tip amount that you want, since is not required.
