About Union Tavern
Traditional pub with a central bar and a changing menu of innovative gastropub dishes.
The pub retains its two room layout, built in Victorian times, with some remains of the original drinking lobby and a former office behind the bar. The many engraved mirrors, bare wood floors and furniture complement the dark wood bar counter, and original fireplaces are retained. The imaginative food menu is displayed on chalk boards, with the left side room serving as a restaurant. The opening hours given are for the bar.
A large retractable TV screen is available for sports events. At the rear, a staircase leads up to a functions room equipped with its own bar, available for hire. In 2013, following the closure of the nearby Pakenham, the number of handpumps doubled to four and the range improved. Post-covid we seem to be down to 2 cask beers, although a picture on their website shows all 4 in use, they have had Redemption, usually they always have something local.
A recent visitor (May 2022) reports as follows - "Happy hour at this pub Monday afternoon. Not sure of exact times, but paid only £3 odd for a pint of Redemption at around 5pm" July 2024 - Confirm Happy Hour Monday to Friday 3pm to 6pm with reductions on a range of drinks including beers. Two cask ales on offer, Sambrook's Wandle and Rebellion Overthrow

My friend and I planned to go for a Sunday roast around Kings Cross and ended up choosing here because it had the best reviews. No regrets! Even though the service could’ve been a little better (one guy in particular was quite abrupt/rushed/stressed, clearly very busy) the food and the warm cosy pub vibes more than made up for it. I went for the pork belly and my friend and her daughter both had chicken. We shared the apple & pear crumble with custard and ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious!

Had a wonderful roast beef dinner today. It was cooked to our requirement. Great atmosphere & service. Potatoes crispy on outside fluffy inside, beef so tender with delicious homemade gravy. Will definitely go back.

We ate here a couple times. Service was friendly every time. Food is good, portions are rather large. Sunday roast was very tasty, surprisingly, the roast carrots and parsnips were the star of the show.

Was looking for a place to hold a lunch for a reunion for 25 plus guests. Was recommended this place from a friend as they had a good experience here. Communicated with Nick and Crook respectively with how to book and they offered the function room. Food and drink selection was great with a good menu for kids. Upon arrival, the room was prepared with a long table already set up for dining. Extra tables and seating was also set up in case we needed more. Special shout out to Maisy and Hannah who served us throughout. Thank you so much for making this experience enjoyable and getting the…

A classic, elegant, beauty of public house tavern hidden & worth finding. This old corner pub in the hidden borders of Clerkenwell is a Victorian beauty. A large hall bar with central round cornered, square bar sitting central. There's a well identified dining area with open kitchen separated from the rest of the bar by a vintage, decoratively cut glazed partition & carved wood arch. The drinking hall is embraced in decorative etched & pattern painted glazing & original cut glass mirrors in vintage frames. There high low seating & a calm atmosphere of local friends. An excellent selection of…
