About Barley Mow

Refined pub with sophisticated decor featuring an a la carte restaurant menu & bar snacks.

This is a splendid-looking corner pub rebuilt in 1896 and was the Japanese Ambassador’s residence before the First World War; there was allegedly a tunnel leading to the then embassy. The site was raked with terrorist gunfire intended for the hotel next door in 1976 and a bullet hole was still visible for many years afterwards.

Reopened by the upmarket Cubitt House chain in late 2022. There is a full-length bar taking centre stage and up to four cask ales reported. Food includes a select and upmarket barfood menu and a restaurant upstairs, both with prices that reflect the area.

Hours given are for bar hours and pub food, the restaurant serving times are different and include weekday breakfast.

One of my favourite pubs in Mayfair, with a proper focus on food in the smart upstairs dining room. The kind of place where, on the back of the menu, they list all of their suppliers - like excellent seafood from Wright Bros. The menu has a mix of pub classics (my friend said his beef pie was exceptional) and interesting variations - among the best was the duck & wild garlic scotch egg, and the truffled potato croquette. The service from Joe and AJ was friendly and efficient, and the dinner was rounded off with a tasty lemon meringue pie. Even if you’re not dining, the bar area downstairs is…

I went recently to try the new breakfast menu. It was such a treat to have a really good-cooked breakfast. The Barley Mow is an excellent pub and also has a fine-dining restaurant. Highly recommended.

Absolutely dreadful experience. If I could give 0 starts I absolutely would. I’ve booked a table for my mother to celebrate her birthday. We all arrived in good spirits to celebrate it and it so happened that the birthday is on the same day as the Euros. The lady on the phone informed us that they are showing football downstairs and it’s walk ins only. Upon arrival we’ve ordered food (which was nice) but there was a room with TV upstairs. My mum asked if it’s possible to book that room for later and what are the options upon which a very snobby I guess manager (based on him wearing different…

Stopped in for a few drinks before heading off to dinner in the area. Lovely central London pub for a summers day. Plenty of space outside to stand around and have drinks, some seating is also available. The inside is rather small near the bar but there is also seating available. There was a live singer when we came for drinks. The menu did look pretty good. I would definitely come back again.

Fun place, there at 2pm and got a table. Very busy other times. Ate bar food downstairs, nice restaurant upstairs. Tried their Pie (meat) and mash. Traditional fun. Good Rolling Man pale ale.
