About Duchess
Pints of beer, cocktails & traditional British meals are the draw in this homey, wood-paneled pub.
Following a refurbishment in 2022, the pub's name was changed from Henry Holland to The Duchess, this time in honour, so the pub's website declares, of "the BBC drama The Duchess of Duke Street, loosely based of the life of Rosa Lewis, the eponymous "Duchess" who works her way up from servant to renowned cook to proprietor of the upper-class Bentinck Hotel."
The pub is high-ceilinged, well furnished with a wood-panelled lounge bar with sash windows, all in elegant style. The first floor restaurant can be hired for functions
The pub is located opposite the Duke Street entrance of Selfridge's and hence not far from the other shops of Oxford Street. There is usually a choice of three cask ales. The interesting menus range from gastro dishes to toasted sandwiches and include brunches and Sunday roasts.

Nice and clean pub in a central location, opposite Selfridges. Staff is friendly and lovely interior. The food was average. We got fish n chips that felt very salty and the fries were undercooked. The tempura pickles were lovely idea for starter. Overall, not impressed with the kitchen.

Stopped in for a Sunday roast and had a great meal. The service was just OK, but the location was in a prime spot for some good people watching.

Everything went well except that we were overcharged for food - twice. During our visit we found out that the bill we received was higher than the price that was marked on the menu by about £5. We were able to the staff to look into this and eventually received a refund, but we still question the integrity of the menu and the staff there given that this consistently occurred.

It was one of the most delicious and diverse Sunday Roasts I have ever eaten. We ordered the Sunday Roast option for 4 people. The menu said unlimited Yorkshire pudding and gravy, but we barely received even 1 Yorkshire pudding. When I ordered the second one, it arrived 30 minutes after we finished our meal and only 1 was delivered. It's a shame that such a delicious Sunday Roast is wasted with such poor service. I understand that since it is a pub, of course everything is ordered from the bar, but when I made my reservation I was not asked if I would like to make a reservation for food or…

Visited a week ago and loved the atmosphere and friendly vibes from both staff and customers. Went upstairs to eat and the decor is fabulous. Our waitress was helpful, bubbly and engaged with us. We had a fantastic meal. Very superior to most pub grub and reasonably priced. Would defo recommend this lovely pub and will be revisiting again soon. 😁
