About Black Dog

Local pub with a rustic vibe, an open kitchen and a dramatic stained-glass arch behind the bar.

Welcoming and popular (especially on weekdays) independent free house pub situated just off the Albert Embankment. Varied and well presented range of food on offer from the open-to-view kitchen spanning lunch and dinner. A house beer Black Dog English Pale Ale along with one to two varying real ales are usually available. Card payments only.

Has become popular in spring 2024 as The Black Dog is the 17th track on The Tortured Poets Department album of the singer Taylor Swift who has reportedly drunk here. The lyrics "And so I watch as you walk - into some bar called The Black Dog - and pierce new holes in my heart" appear in the first verse of the song.

Great food and service. We ate lunch here for my birthday. Staff was extremely friendly (even though the pub was full). When we were ready to leave the manager brought me a birthday card that had been signed by the staff, very touching and much better than the normal staff singing happy birthday.

I've been here for my mum's birthday 🎂 and she was so pleased with the food and the atmosphere. The service was immaculate and the staff very friendly! They also handed out a tasty dessert 😊 I would definitely recommend it and I'll be back soon!

There are much better local pubs. This pub was recently made famous by Taylor Swift singing about it. It's our local but this was the first time we ate there. It's a great location and can eat either inside or outside the front of the pub or the beer garden. The food was very disappointing. The service was slow and confused. We had to repeatedly ask for our drinks order and water. The fish and chips were soggy , the batter was thick, and there was no crunch. The actual fish was hard to find within the thick batter and was only a thin tiny amount. The steak was thin and a bit tough. Didn't…

I feel like it was a nice local pub and the food was okay, the pins was great but the starters especially the prawns was quite a small portion for £12. As a swiftie I was a little disappointed in the experience, we went the week Taylor was performing and the whole time we were there not one TS song was played, there were a few drawings on the wall but that was the only thing- there was merch to purchase as well I think the jumpers started at £50. It was a nice pub with a chilled atmosphere but I wish they did a bit more like at least play a song or had a Taylor inspired cocktail available…

I came here because I’m a Swiftie but had no idea what to expect. I was SO pleasantly surprised! The staff was very friendly, they’ve got good beer, and the fish & chips was honestly incredible! Best potatoes I had in my entire 2 weeks traveling all over Europe. They’re leaning into their new fame with cute merch and 2 little murals with the lyrics, but it still feels very much like an English pub! The neighborhood and park around it are also very cute and perfect for a little afternoon stroll.
