About Bull & Gate
Victorian pub with sofas & a dining room serving seasonal, innovative dishes & craft brews.
Oct 2023 - The Northern Lane station is closed until Easter next year - Thameslink overland still ok Tufnell Park is probably the best alternative. Or walk from Kentish Town West or Gospel Oak.
Acquired by Young's in 2014 and closed for some serious architectural changes which have seen the loss of the live music venue but the creation of an upstairs Boulogne Bar which has a grand piano and did have complimentary live jazz every week on Friday and Saturday evenings but that seems to have been put on hold by Covid. This is a nod to the pub's original name, the ‘Boulogne Gate’ coaching Inn - so-called to commemorate Henry VIII’s victory in France in 1544.
A fine Victorian pub, it still has some original fittings including some of the glass in the bar-back, and carved wooden detail in the arches over the doors. The lost music hall hosted many hundreds of live bands over the years, including Coldplay & Blur. It is now a dining room. A CAMRA Heritage Pub.

We booked here purely on the recommendation of the Sunday lunch. We were not let down. Man what a great good old fashioned pub setting. Set in the buzzing district of Kentish town. We went fairly early and it was a beautiful day, so it wasn't that busy. Thus the 3 Star for atmosphere. I'm sure of any other day that would be a 5 100%. Down to the food. Just a great honest Sunday lunch. Done absolutely brilliantly. Not one thing on the plate that wasn't enjoyable. The nut roast was some of the best I've eaten. My partner had the new spinach and vegan feta Wellington and that gets top marks…

WOW! The Bull & Gate is one of the nicest decorated and furnished pubs we have been to in London. So many nice, cozy places to sit. Friendly helpful staff. Dog friendly. Great wine menu. Even the toilets are nicely furnished and very clean.

Had a drink here before a gig. Service was a little more laid back then most bars/pubs I've visited but drinks were good and nice lityle atmosphere. The ladies bathroom was beautiful.

I absolutely loved it and I’ll be back for sure! I brought my parents visiting from Italy to have a Sunday Roast. The place is very cool and I loved the decor. A Croatian guy looked after us and had a great customer service. The food served was really good, one Sunday roast with a great half chicken and the two vegetarian options. To be honest it’s rare to find so many positive things altogether in a pub in London..!

The Bull & Gate is a brilliant pub courtesy of Youngs. Great beer, a fine menu and wonderful service from all the staff. Everyone was busy preparing for a wedding reception on my visit but nothing was overlooked for casual customers such as myself. Service was second to none but still casual and friendly in spite of the stress for all. Great visit, a credit to all involved. The building itself is gorgeous Victoriana, high ceilings, iron columns and all the rest. There is a sumptuous upstairs filled with Chesterfield's and the like. Great place to visit.
