About Captain Flinders
A new Spoons pub which opened in Jan 2024.
Archaeologists working at the Euston station redevelopment (as the London HS2 terminus) discovered the remains of Captain Matthew Flinders. The Royal Navy explorer led the first circumnavigation of Australia (1801–03) and is credited with giving the country its name. He was not the first to use the term, but his work and publications popularised it. On the station’s main concourse is a statue of Flinders leaning over a map, with his pet cat Trim.
From the Ham & High - The pub will close at midnight on Mondays to Thursdays, and until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. It will be open at 7.30am on Sundays, shutting at 11.30pm. Customers will be able to buy alcohol from 8am, until 11.30pm on Mondays to Thursdays and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and until 10.30pm on Sundays.

Solid new Spoons. A bit further down Eversholt St than I had realised so don't give up. Service friendly and efficient. Atmosphere busy but not unpleasantly so. A few tables out the front for beers in the sun (when weather permits). Nice features reflecting Euston's history. Unlike the Lion and Unicorn at Waterloo there is a reassuringly long walk to the bathrooms. Nice feature having train times displayed on a screen.

🚇 Euston 🍺 £5.21 Carlsberg A Newish Spoons. The Captain Flinders is located on busy Eversholt Street close to Euston train station. The nearest Tube is Euston which is just across the road. This Spoons opened in January this year in the former SophistiCats strip club. The Captain Flinders is named in honor of the Royal Navy explorer Matthew Flinders, whose remains were discovered during archaeological work at the Euston station redevelopment. Matthew Flinders is renowned for leading the first circumnavigation of Australia from 1801 to 1803 and is credited with giving the country its…

Wetherspoon #124 visited. Popped in here for a quick pint on way home. Did not have food, as had eaten earlier on. Had a pint of Portobello Crown Jewels beer for £4.68 a pint. The pub only has six handpumps, so the range is a bit more limited than other Wetherspoons, when the standard range is taken into account. Had a quick look at the menu. The prices are the same as other Zone 1 London branches, bar those inside St Pancras and London Victoria.

Didn't rate this Spoons at all. It was small & very busy. Outside seating area was useful for smokers. Menu was poor. No mixed grills, steaks or onion rings available!!!!! Settled for a pizza instead. There were lots of people hogging tables with their laptops set up which is a little selfish. Interesting history to the building & about Captain Flinders. Really good location opposite Euston station but I wouldn't rush back. To finish on a positive note the toilets were spotless & well maintained so well done for that.

Wow. A good addition to the local area. At last somewhere near to Euston station that's pleasant, comfy and doesn't cost the earth to buy drinks. It's actually quite small inside which is disappointing, and yes the furniture is crammed in to tight. But the atmosphere is good, the prices are good, great new waiting room for Euston Station!
