About Signal Box
Stylish hangout with a warm ambiance dishing up traditional pub fare & breakfast.
Opened in 2018 and located upstairs in the station’s terrace at the Eastern end, it features a bar, dining space and outside drinking area with seating. It occupies an L-shaped space that can be accessed by stairs, lift or escalator. There are three distinct areas, two of which offer table service. The outer terrace looks over the main concourse and faces the train indicator boards although a large pillar tends to obscure the view. There are train departure screens in the main bar and the dining space. It opens for breakfast from the times set out (taken from their website on 26/10/23) until noon with the full menu being available from then.

I had a meal in The Signal Box while I waited for a train. I was served by Niki who was very polite, cheerful and engaging. I ordered the sausage meal which surpassed expectations - good flavour combination and the widest onion rings I have ever seen! The sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was really good with a strong flavour and not swamped in cheap ice cream. 💚🐇🐴💚

I was served by Palak who was attentive and friendly. I had the full English, latte and apple juice. The breakfast was perfectly cooked and hit the spot very nicely. The latte was strong as requested. The apple juice was amazing. Everything came to the table super quickly. The venue is awesome complete with train departure boards so you don't miss your train. I felt relaxed and given the time to eat without any rush.

A tenner for a small bowl of chips and a small glass of lemonade felt a little excessive when you can go next door to Leon and get chicken nuggets or a rice box and a drink for less. Staff seemed moderately aware of allergens which was reassuring, service was quick and the food wasn't bad. Probably won't return but was fine if everything else is closed.

Rather disappointed with the service I received. The asain gent that served me was absolutely fine and no qualms here, more the food preparation and subsequently oddity in arranging my order as requested. I asked for the black pudding to be swapped out which wasn’t an issue, so I chose another egg as these were at same price point, but was told “not eggs just bacon or sausages” as they “run out of eggs”. When I received my breakfast I noticed the eggs were fried not poached as requested. (It states to specify the way you would like the eggs to be prepared in the menu and the gent asked me…

Horrendously expensive for a light breakfast. I had a porridge with honey, my wife had eggs Benedict (one muffin halved, one slice of ham quartered, 2 eggs and Sauce, no greens or garnish). To drink we had 2 Decaff Americanos and the total was £32. Including a 15% service charge which was added automatically. I’m sorry but that is just a ridiculous amount for so little and although we will return for drinks - we won’t be eating here again.
