About Carpenters Arms
Restored, wood-panelled pub serving real ales, with Chesterfield sofas and rooftop beer garden.
This former Wenlock Brewery pub dates from 1938 and still retains many original features. The outside is pure 1930s, with ground floor faience tiling, brick upper storeys and a ceramic “Wenlock” plaque above the corner entrance. Two bars; rooftop beer garden; "granny annex". The original building was first licensed in 1776, spending its first year as the Three Compasses. Food offering includes Sunday roasts.
Back in 1973, there were only around 115 premises recorded as selling real ale in London. Although that number has grown many fold, sadly only three quarters of the original number still exist and are selling cask. But the fact that there are still some and that thos pub is one of them is a cause for celebration.
Card payment only.

A Hidden Gem with Great Atmosphere and Excellent Food I recently visited The Carpenters Arms pub and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. This pub is a perfect blend of traditional charm and modern comfort. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a cosy interior that feels just right for both a quiet pint and a lively evening with friends. The menu offers a fantastic range of classic pub dishes, all of which are clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The selection of drinks is impressive, with a good variety of craft beers, and an extensive wine list. What really…

I visited the pub a few days ago after work, and it was a really enjoyable experience. The staff were friendly and efficient, making sure everything was just right without hovering. The bartenders were quick with our drinks, and the food was genuinely good—well-prepared and flavorful, exactly what you'd want from a pub meal. The atmosphere had a nice, relaxed vibe, perfect for winding down after a long day. Overall, it’s a great spot if you're looking for a comfortable place to grab a drink and enjoy some good food.

I visited the pub over the weekend with a few friends, and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The atmosphere was lively yet not overly crowded, making it ideal for catching up and enjoying the evening together. The staff were attentive, ensuring that we had everything we required. The bartenders were efficient, and our drinks were served promptly. The food was of a high standard, surpassing our expectations for a pub meal. It’s the sort of place where one can settle in for a relaxed evening with good company, good food, and an inviting ambiance. We shall certainly be returning.

Glad me and my friends stumbled across this place since the location was very central. We came here on a Sunday evening and it was fairly lively but not uncomfortably overcrowded. Pleasant seating at the rooftop terrace. Atmosphere is very relaxing and all the staff were very helpful. I really enjoyed the fish and chips and the triple cooked chips gave it an edge. overall great pub, would definitely go again since it’s a convenient location and the staff were kind and welcoming. Thanks for the service!

What a great pub! We were looking for a fun spot with some energy and so many pubs in the neighborhood were pretty quiet. This one had a lot of young folks and international students/travelers. The upstairs is awesome with a large well-lit patio and a nice old bar room. Downstairs is more formal with elegant bar rooms. Landlord on cask in addition to plenty other draft beers. Finally tried Neck Oil which is everywhere and it was pretty darn good. Staff were young and friendly. Can’t recommend enough!
