About Chandos
Pub serving Yorkshire ales, with rough-and-ready floorboards, original wooden booths and tiling.
Named the Bulls Head until it was rebuilt in 1885, the Chandos was enlarged to its present size in 1891. The attractive wood and stucco frontage is topped by a cooper working his craft on a balcony high up on the corner (see photo). The premises has been noted by Westminster Council as an unlisted building of merit.
The ground floor has bare boards, polished woodwork, stained glass windows, secluded seating and a semi-enclosed area to the rear. Upstairs you can find the lounge, named the "Opera Room" after the English National Opera at the nearby London Coliseum, with its own servery for food and drinks and where families are welcome.
The usual range of Sam Smith's beverages are available including handpumped OBB. The menu offers traditional pub dishes at modest prices for the area. Patrons should note that there is a strict "no swearing" policy in Samuel Smith's establishments. Also by decision of the brewery owner, customers may not use mobile phones (except for payments), laptops or similar inside the pub; tablets and iPads are prohibited inside or outside. The brewery's policy is that its pubs are for social conversation person to person.

We stopped there for lunch after a visit of the National Gallery. Tasty food, quick and friendly service. It was on a hot day though and there was no AC and the windows were open.

Really happy with the food and drinks. Unfortunately there was no mashed potato on the evening I visited but was able to change them to other sides. If you are looking for a comfortable pub in Trafalgar, I recommend Chandos 🍻

I remember this pub being refurbished in the early 1980's for £2m and all my colleagues visiting to see how it cost so much. The answer, exceptional quality hardwood panelling and FF&E. Well it's aged well with a busy ground floor bar and Opera room 1st floor. Sam Smiths aren't the less cost option they used to be, but the beers and range are good. The young crew upstairs did a fine job of serving swiftly and clearing down and cleaning tables. Worth a visit, but possibly not on a pre theatre time.

Didn’t buy food but had drink & used the toilets. Clean & lovely pub. Shame about graffiti on toilet walls. Excellent OBB on hand pull. Great Sam Smiths pub

Popped in for a meal and drink, both enjoyable. Service was friendly and what you would expect. However surprised that a service charge is now added! Not something I have come across in a pub. So two pie and chips with two beers £55. We like this place and have been before but would rather tip than feel pressured into a service charge.
