A curved fronted pub opposite the main entrance to Herne Hill railway station. Two main rooms, one with bar and mix of low tables and comfy chairs. Second room filled with tables for meals without feeling like a restaurant area. A patio style outside area at the far end of the room with the bar where smokers tend to congregate.

When first arriving at The Commercial pub, I was very unimpressed, the pub itself looks pretty run down and not particularly clean. The glasses that our drinks came in were pretty dirty too. Food wise I tried the crispy calamari, fish & chips and also bangers and mash. The food was actually very very good. All three dishes were delicious, I have no complaints concerning the food. The bangers and mash was particularly tasty, I was a big fan of the clotted cream mash.

Great food! We went there for lunch on Sunday. Sunday roast with half of the chicken was really nice. The chicken was massive!! Fish and chips also very very good. Nice, crispy and not oily at all.

Nice staff, really unfriendly bearded manager. They’ve obviously got a difficult choice about letting people sit outside with food from the market, but I was inside buying a pint and my lad was sitting waiting for me eating a roll. Dude told him he couldnt sit there then came inside and told me off too because they serve food outside. I wondered after if this was why it was empty at peak lunch time outside with the market rammed. Not nice.
