Large, cavernous Victorian corner house retaining high ceilings and some original mirrors. Refurbished as more of a gastropub and renamed from Duke of Devonshire early in 2008. Split level seating areas behind the central bar with a large garden open in the summer.

Had dinner here on Saturday evening. Sun was shining and the back garden was heaving. Had a few pints of estrella, hepcat and asahi as I’d been working on my house and was both hungry and thirsty. I had the schnitzel was very good, tender chicken and a nice crumb. The accompanying sauce was good too albeit I can’t remember what it was. The fish and chips and the steak bavette were enjoyed thoroughly and we had a side of bread and fries. All of the plates were clean which is a testament to the food. It’s good quality and decent pricing. Overall it’s a great pub with great atmosphere and…

First visit; very inviting service, busy atmosphere with great decor and large back courtyard for the summer. More drinks with friends than traditional sit down. Food isn’t the strong point but still reasonable.

This was a lovely place to stop in to have a bit of lunch. I sat further back in the pub where there were comfortable booths and I must have been there early, as I was one of the only people there other than the staff. I had half a pint of Session Ale on the recommendation of the manager. It paired rather nicely with the Devonshire plant burger that I had for lunch. The burger comes with cheese, ale onions, shredded lettuce and pickles with chips (fries) on the side. It was gorgeously filthy and messy to eat as any truly good burger should be! The chips were excellent and crispy and fresh…

Used to go to The Devonshire when it was one of the roughest pubs in Balham and had sawdust on the floor of the public bar. As Balham gentrified the Devonshire went up market. Lots of seating, inside and out, usual Youngs menu, lots of beers with exotic names (all the beers used to be called "Young's..."). Service was fast but the bar was only just starting to fill up on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. No point in missing the old days. They've long gone and Balham is very, very different to when I was a kid. I like The Devonshire. It's a Young's formula pub. It's great that the formula brands have…

Service for food was a little slow but otherwise great, roast was delicious. The only thing that let it down was the cauliflower cheese. Not cheesy at all!
