About Flying Horse

The last traditional pub standing on Oxford Street, featuring decorative work by Felix de Jong.

A Flemish Renaissance style exterior leads to a highly ornate interior with fine painted ceiling bosses and elaborate murals of curvaceous ladies by Felix de Jong, the leading musical hall decorative artist. It was called the Flying Horse until it was rebuilt in 1893 by the Baker Bros to the design of Saville & Martin at a cost of £12,120. After over a century as the Tottenham, it has now reverted to its former name. Grade II*-listed and included in CAMRA’s National Inventory, it is now the only remaining pub on Oxford St. J K Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, describes the pub in her 2013 novel The Cuckoo's Calling.

The downstairs bar has windows to the cellar.

2 Westons (non real) ciders on offer Nov 23.

Note that the licence does not permit alcohol sale before noon on Sundays.

Good place to meet up with a friend and a nice atmosphere. Got chatting with people seated nearby. Only downside was my friend nearly had his laptop taken from its case next to the table. Quick reaction saved it and the two blokes who were the likely offenders were already halfway out the door once found out. So, watch your bags here!!

I thought this was a great watering hole to visit in central London before me and my partner went across to the dominion theatre opposite. Great selection of beers and ales, and a silly amount of spirits and wines to accommodate most pallets. The best part of our visit was the downstairs bar which we didn’t know existed until we couldn’t find seats upstairs. We found a nice table down there and watched some sport whilst the tunes were on. Great vibe all round. Would pop in here again.

Stopped off here after an early show on a Friday evening. It was very busy to start with, with after work and pre-show drinkers. A traditional London Pub, great beers, friendly staff, good atmosphere and sports shown on 2 screens. Toilets are down a steep staircase in the cellar. There is also the St Giles Bar in the cellar which can be booked for private functions.

Never in my life have I encountered such incompetent people at the bar. I asked them how much a glass of soda water would be, and rather than answering me, he just said ‘be patient sir’. He then asked if I would like ice, I said a tiny bit - he filled the glass. He then billed me £2.60 for something that is usually no more than £0.80, even in central London. 0/10 service. Atmosphere was decent, a bit smelly, and the food was awful but not 1 star awful. Giving that 2 stars. Overall 2/10 experience. That barman ruined my day. Charging me bloody £2.60.

If I could have given 0 stars, i would have! We got inside, asked for two beers, seat down and not even after 5 min the bell rang for "last order drink" and after 5 min we had to give the glasses and pour the beer in plastic cups. After another 4-5 min one of the serves said that we need to leave and I was trying to tell him that we enter the building not even 10 minutes ago, where they could have said, that we are closed and we would have left; but not, they didn't mention anything! When I tried to explain that this is not a great service/treatment for a guest, I have been told in an…
