About Footman

Traditional pub serving British menu in the bar and an elegant bare-brick upstairs dining room.

Licensed in 1749 and rebuilt in 1937 with a roof extension making it taller than its neighbours in its terrace. It is the only pub in London bearing this sign. In olden days liveried footmen were employed to run before carriages to pay toll dues, carry lights at night, and similar. Their physical powers were often formidable and some could run sixteen to twenty miles in a couple of hours.

Now the site is a comfortable lounge bar with attractive bay windows and additional seating plus restaurant upstairs. The food offering includes lunchtime sandwiches, Sunday roasts and a kids' menu. The venue has been described as "a posh local for posh locals".

The roast has been the best here. Really super great. However now it is just an average roast. Nothing wrong with it, but you expect more from the Footman

This is a busy pub and probably are not bothered about losing the odd punter. £7.20 for a pint of guiness is becoming the norm, so fair enough. At least serve a PINT. Swindling each customer out of a little beer each time is just plain wrong

Attended the restaurant after looking up that it had a wide availability all night on Open Table, so we walked in without booking. The restaurant was nearly empty, only 3 tables were filled and looking at open table once arrived, there was still wide open availability for the night. Well, the server explained that they were actually booked for the whole night and we could not be seated. We showed her the open availability and she said there was nothing she could do and we could speak to the manager if we wanted. We declined out of fear our food would be spoiled by angry staff and went…

Food was fantastic - fresh, flavorful and presentation was wonderful. The sole, whilst was not de-boned, was tender and flavorful. Sticky toffee pudding is just what you would expect. Linda provided great service and was very personable which we enjoyed.

We came to celebrate my Australian friends first roast in London, and honestly it was a little disappointing. We sat upstairs with little pub vibes. Amazing staff though, service and drinks were fabulous. We paid over £90 for 3 drinks and roasts. The roast was average, it wasn’t overly tasty, the Yorkshire was hard and tough to eat to the point I didn’t finish it, and we asked for more gravy. Yorkshires are my favourite bit of a roast. Overall it was one of my least favourite roasts in London. We left to go to another pub with more lovely vibes, but when we went downstairs it was a lot…
