About George
Modern rustic-style pub with wood-panelled walls and fireplaces offering hearty British dishes.
There has been a pub here since 1666, when this was the main road out of London, the present building dating from the 1920's built as a hotel featuring modern gas lamps for lighting. The large lamps outside may well have been for such purpose. Originally the George, it had a spell as the Great Tree from 1700 until later in the 18th century. Used to be a Rat & Parrot (S&N Retail) for a few years until 2004.
The exterior is quite impressive in "Brewer's Tudor" style with leaded windows in the upper story. There is a large single, open plan L-shaped bar which has undergone recent refurbishment to brighten the place up and create a very comfortable environment. Using plenty of light wood, soft colours, lighting and gas coal-effect fires, there's a stripped wooden bar with stools around it and a mix of sofas and standard tables. The floor is alternatively tiled or wooden and the back area seems to be reserved for eating in the evenings. There is a small patio to the rear, largely given over to smokers. Hot and cold meals are available daily. All NHS staff get a 10% discount.

Excellent pub! Friendly service, very cool nut station, and treats for pups. Nice decor and lighting, plenty of outlets, and outdoor seating.

A very warm and friendly welcome, and great food and beer. Small plates were very tasty and good value. We had an unpleasant experience at a nearby pub who had every table reserved, so we arrived feeling a bit frustrated!! Calm was soon restored here. Lovely, relaxing environment, very nice staff.

Kitchen has much improved so if you ate here before and were disappointed don’t worry it’s all much better now . I haven’t tried that many things but steak sandwich is really good value at lunch with a pint . Soft bread soft steak very yummy and nice and salsa is also dressed well :/) Stuart the bar dude was particularly lovely and whilst it’s not the most cute atmospheric pub in the area it is by far and away the best if you’re after down to earth normal people and pub as apposed to superficial nonsense :-) that’s my review . I lived here my whole life and like the George the best .

Fantastic pub, great service, food, drinks and so nice to be able to watch live sports in the heart of Belsize Park. Dogs love it because they get a waterbowl with ice and lemon upon arrival and delicious dog treats by the door.
