About George
Traditional & updated British classics served in a stylish modern pub with a seasonal back patio.
Dating from 1864, this former Watney's pub is now managed by Hippo Inns. It has a rich history linked to the docks and the local community. The present early 1930s building consists of three distinct bars, each with its own special character, plus a large conservatory / restaurant along with an award winning patio garden. Between the public bar with 4 handpumps and the saloon also with 4 handpumps is a snug area called Ma Baker's Bar, named after a regular, and probably at one time an off-licence facility. The walls are adorned with many pictures of local dock scenes and characters, all in a very welcoming ambience. An excellent choice of food is available with vegetarians catered for. There is a weekly quiz on Mondays

Really nice pub with very friendly local customers and a relaxing atmosphere. Absolutely great food and service!

We waited almost 2h for a Sunday roast and the food was tiny! Definitely not worth the money! Everything is expensive, small and the service deserves zero stars! Tables are dirty and no one comes to clean it. After waiting for 1h, we asked the waitress about it and the answer was extremely patronising and arrogant "it is not ready and I don't know when it will be".

£7.99 for a hand and bacon toastie plus "loaded" chips. Two rashers of bacon and a blob of cheddar in white bread (after asking for brown). Chips, on menu as coming with shredded bacon but I invite you to find it in the photo provided. Spring onion sliced and tossed on casually. Slow service. I know this is London but this is a rip off.

The George is a charming local pub that's worth a visit. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a cozy, traditional atmosphere with a welcoming fireplace. The bar offers a decent selection of beers on tap, including a standard range of spirits and wines. The food menu, while not extensive, covers all the pub classics you'd expect. I tried their fish and chips, which was satisfying - the fish was fresh and the batter crispy. The portions are generous, ensuring you won't leave hungry. The staff are friendly and attentive, providing quick service even during busier periods. Joanna served…

Cozy local pub. Went there to watch the game and didn’t disappoint. Enrico was very kind and spoke to us for a while making our first visit very memorable. I recommend to go if you don’t want to go to crowded places
