About Golden Lion

Old-school saloon bar with stripped wooden floors, an antique bar, darts and a jukebox.

A lovely and popular community pub. Saved from closure in 2013, the licensee and the local community, supported by Camden Council, waged a long campaign to prevent its conversion into flats. This came to its final and excellent conclusion with the sitting tenant buying the pub which he now leases out. Has lovely, tasteful decor complimenting its historical features, mainly its mirrored back bar. A real "back street community boozer".

Darts board and five mins walk from the tube and overground station. Toilets (including disabled access and stair lift) are downstairs. Now operating a fully functional kitchen operated by franchises such as Rack City Ribs from 07/02/2024. The food serving hours we show should be checked with the pub if you are planning a special visit. Listed as an asset of community value (ACV) by Camden Council.

Happy "hour" - a selection of beers (Carlesberg, Ales, Cider), wines and spirits for £3.99 Mon - Fri 3pm-6pm, Sat - Sun Noon-5pm

I had the pleasure of trying the roast meal at the Golden Lion Pub, which featured a delicious spread of Jamaican cuisine, and I was beyond impressed. The roast oxtail was perfectly cooked—tender and packed with rich, deep flavors. The seasoning was spot on, making each bite of the oxtail absolutely mouthwatering. Paired with well-prepared rice, creamy coleslaw, and indulgent mac and cheese, the meal was a satisfying mix of textures and flavors. The wings were also a standout, seasoned to perfection with just the right amount of spice and juiciness. I couldn’t finish them all, so I took some…

🚇Camden Town 🍺 £6.30 Kirin Lager The Golden Lion is located in the backstreets of Camden Town, away from the hustle and bustle of the High Street. The nearest Tube is Camden Town, Camden Road overground is also close by. This architecturally stunning pub was built in the 1890’s and is on Camra's heritage pubs list. In 2013 the pub faced closure and conversion into flats. Thankfully it was saved by the local community, the tenacious sitting tenants at the time and Camden Council. This is a bright and airy one bar pub that has a contemporary feel. At the far end of the bar is a marble…

Lovely hidden gem in Camden serving great food by Rack City Ribs (check them out on Instagram). As a BBQ fanatic I have to say the beef short rib was up there with some of the best I've had and the wings have a great light batter. Looking forward to trying the 7 Mac and cheese next.

Was visiting London and stumbled across this place shortly after arriving. It was advertising Sunday lunch, too be fair at a reasonable price of £13.99. The place was also empty which made me feel slightly apprehensive. So we sat down and ordered our dinner. It took around 20 minute's, which I don't mind if the food is cooked properly. Out came our Sunday roast and wow, it was fantastic. I genuinely can't explain how good the food was. So if you're in this area then head in here, you won't be disappointed. And to top off our visit the place had a really good British pub feel about it…

Really lovely friendly pub, very good prices met friends over from oz, and just had the best afternoon. Thank you! Didn’t have any food, but I’m sure it’s lovely!
