Greyhound, Sydenham

About Greyhound

British cooking, including Sunday roasts, offered in a sunny dining room & bar with large windows.

Following a long drawn out saga of closure, illegal demolition, community campaign and eventual rebuilding, the Greyhound finally reopened in February 2018, having been closed for over a decade. The single ground floor space has the bar and informal high seating to the right, whilst the area on the left has a mix of tables and chairs and at the extreme left end are conservatory type windows looking out on to the road scene. The interior features some interesting wall mural tiles saved from the old building. 2 greyhound statues keep guard outside the entrance. Gents' and Ladies' toilets are down a flight of steps.

Booked a table for 4 and a baby for Lunch on a Saturday. Food was delicious, I had a steak with great flavour - could have had a few more chips! Our waitress was lovely, friendly and attentive. There is also a lovely function room for hire with a reasonable minimum spend. I found the toilets downstairs to be a bit dingy and not very fresh which is why I haven’t given 5 stars.

I an a vegetarian and also have various food intolerances and I was looked after, and fed, very well. The food is delicious. The staff are great and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. My partner said it was the best Sunday roast he'd had for years (and we have visited a lot of London pubs and tried their roasts)

Nice, modern style, but with character. Very airy on a warm summer day with lots of outdoor seating. A popular stop for lunch. The ham hock terrine with pickles was perfect as a small nibble for two. Everything else being served around us looked good and empty plates would indicate that it tasted good too. Nice selection of beers. Check out the rear wall outside (facing the Sainsbury's) - it's a beautiful mural of a greyhound made from ceramic tiles each of which is decorated with old and contemporary photos. Well worth a closer look. The main toilets are in the basement, but there's an…

We went for a Sunday Roast, which was really good, particularly the roast potatoes and red cabbage! However, throughout the meal, the service was bad. There seemed to be two people actively working for the “restaurant section” of the pub: one was attentive, but also doing other parts of the pub and the other was absent. Though a 12.5% Service Charge was added to the bill (which we paid because the food was good), we could not get anyone’s attention to order more drinks, get the bill, etc. so we ended up having to go to the bar to do these.

Lovely spot with lots of space indoors and outdoors! Came here for a Sunday roast and making the most of the terrace. We were well looked after by the team, which was attentive, quick and smiley! Mixed Roast was actually really good and tasty.. it came with a good amount of veggies, sauces and cauliflower cheese bake. We added bread, fries and shared the whole lot. Happy with the quality of it and the price as well: Will surely come back if I am around Sydenham again!
